Just wondering because 3 years ago even Kelly didnt get this much love.

Trust me Sergios a classy guy and great for boxing but man #3p4p? I watch this guy and sure hes good but hes not something that will make you go whoa!

So I just feel like Taylors a better fighter than Williams is at the time PAvlik beat him. TAylor looked great early in that fight. Are we overrating this win by SM??

50-50 for me. taylor being the man to beat hopkins was a big thing at the time, despite taylor's obvious frailties since.

personally i think all of these fighters are going to remembered as just below the top fighters of their era.

Well said. But Taylor was good man. You rewatch that fight he was bruising Kelly with the jab and the speed. I guess the crux of my argument is that I felt Taylor was an elite level fighter at the time.

Williams hmmm. never really sold on him.

Also PAvlik destroyed that one dimensional but scary mofo Miranda as well but there were more people here actually doubting Kelly at the time.

Yeah, I have nothing bad to say about Sergio hes all class and that was a scary KO but PAvliks KO was just as impressive because Taylor is good man. I rewatched that fight a week ago and Taylors got some tremendous skills. I think that beating took alot out of him.

But its Williams, like many have said, hes pretty much a KO waiting to happen with that right hand down.

i never thought pavlik was going to be a champ for too long. to be a genuine 'blood and guts' champ takes a lot of convincing for me.

mikkel kessler's promoter at the time, mogens palle, definitely avoided a fight with edison miranda pre - super six (as a side note).

i was living in denmark at the time and remember what a load of bull**** palle said to try to play down the legitimacy of the fight.

i also thought taylor was pretty skilled - and he was - but once he took the froch fight (which he only took as a supposed stepping stone back into the US limelight) and got KO'd by a vastly inferior technical fighter, that really was the writing on the wall right there.

A simple win over Taylor was better.

But Pavlik almost got KTFO in that fight. The manner of Martinez's win was better. Also Martinez's recent form across 2 divsions, Cintron, PW, Pavlik, PW edges Pavlik's wins over Miranda and Taylor by a bit.

Im a Williams/Martinez fan but I have to go with Pavlik over Taylor. Taylor was the man to beat after the best wins of his career against Hopkins and Pavlik beat him. Going into Martinez/Williams 2 I felt neither guys were "the man" but Martinez proved that he was after the fight and I hope he reigns for a long time. Martinez' ko was more devastating as Paul fell flat on his face. Williams & Taylor both showed vulnerabilites but many wouldn't think they would lose like they did(Williams against Martinez & Taylor losing to Pavlik in the first fight). Both devastating ko's but I thought Taylor fought smarter in the Pavlik rematch(unlike Williams who did the opposite facing Martinez). I hope Paul Williams & Jermain Taylor recover well.

if you were replying to me, sure it did. that was a cracking KO.
but it doesn't make him one of the best fighters of this era because of it.

Yeah, I agree. I don't really get into P4P lists but watch Martinez fight and then watch Pavs fight, different levels man.

You gotta wonder how a guy that trains for boxing just can't get his stamina to where it needs to be? I'm talking about JT here. It wasn't even medicore, genetics I guess.

Whats so impressive about the Pavlik win is thats he was getting blistered and he broke Taylor down showed incredible guts. What made it better was TAylor showed a warriors side as well, that KO was so sudden and so brutal he just slumped in his corner.

Hard to compare because the landscape is so different now, especially considering what happened to both taylor and pavlik since. But taylor was really highly reguarded back then, and the way pavlik won, almost being knocked out himself then coming back to stop taylor, at a time when he was considered the man, was pretty big. Hard choice, but overall i'd say pavlik over taylor

pavlik and martinez arent a different level of fighter. i'd class them as the same.

with taylor, it's a shame that his ability wasn't backed up by a complete fighter. nothing he can do about that.

Really? Pav is pretty one dimensional.

But to the question at hand I'd have to say Pavliks win was bigger considering who JT was at the time whereas Williams was still somewhat unknown and he certainly doesn't have anyone like Hops on his resume...twice.
