yes you're right. taylor deserved props for being the man to dethrone hopkins.

regardless of taylor's frailties, he beat a great fighter to make his mark.
flip side is that williams was young and in his prime, while a prime hopkins would have destroyed taylor.

because he was young, talented and didn't bring a lot of bargaining chips to the table to offset the danger of fighting him.

fighters don't get avoided because they are the best fighter out there.

Thats was pretty much prime BHOP. Hopkins fans cant have it both ways. He was green when he lost to Jones then he fought all the B level fighters in between before Jermaine. He was Prime then. **** he was still Prime in the Calzaghe fight. And no he couldnt destroy Taylor with that style of his.

I don't think people are understanding this thread
It's not comparing Martinez & Pavlik...

But the quality of the WIN.
I don't know about you, But Jermaine Taylor ****'s on Paul Williams.

pavlik knocked taylor out and took his crown. he was also the underdog. the martinez an williams rematch was very close goin into the fight. pavlik to me beat the undefeate guy who took bernard hopkins out twice.

It's close. I like the way Martinez knocked out Williams, plus, Williams had his judges, venue, commentators, referee, HBO, etc. Martinez went in and knocked him out because he knew he would never get a decision by the crooks.

Taylor did struggle with Spinks and didn't look good vs Ouma. But I still think a prime Taylor is a lot better than Williams and bigger, and he would beat Martinez too imo.

sergio's destruction of paul was awesome. very very impressive. i havent had an "oh ****" moment like that in a long time. even pac/hatton didnt make me do that.

but between the two fights is pav's win over jermain and i don't think its really close. jermain taylor was the undefeated undisputed mw champion. kelly was being laughed at (literally) by steward and taylor prior to the fight.

as impressive as sergio's one punch ko of williams was...it changed nothing in my mind in that williams is not a real mw and would have the same thing done to him at mw by a few others...kelly included. and before anyone says sergio isnt a mw either...he is now. he's grown into it just fine. he's coming into his mw fights at the same weight kelly was when kelly was on track.

Taylor over Hopkins, Pavlik over Taylor, and Martinez over Pavlik are all better wins than Martinez over Williams. Martinez over Williams is only important because Sergio avenged a loss.

I think their wins were about the same. Taylor and Williams were both on the pound for pound list when they were defeated. Martinez win over Williams might be considered bigger when compared, due to the fact that he had just handled Pavlik in his last fight before smashing on Williams.
