Simply because I believe Judah to be better than Lacy. Even after Judah lost, he still went on to become champion. Jeff Lacy (though he has alot of heart and chin) was never really as good as he was set out to be, the SMW division at that time was not particularly strong and his wins over Reid and Sheika dont strike me as particularly impressive
Judah's pretty crap but he has won multiple titles at different weights and has done much more with his career than Lacy ever did. Tszyu - Judah.
Interesting question. With boxing matches you have to look at the fights when they happend, then again in hindsight. When the fight happend - Judah was a winner of 6 world title fights, his only real decent opponent was T Millett who had lost in a round to S Mitchell. Judah had been put down a couple of times before. Lacy was a winner of 5 world title fights and had beaten world rated SMWs Vanderpool, Pemberton, Sheika, Reid and was beating Tsypko before a NC was called. Lacy had never been down. When the fight happend - Lacy looked a better win than Judah. In Hindsight - Judah has gone on to have a far better career than Lacy and should be considered a better win overall. But not at the time, I dont think. Similar to like when Jones beat Hopkins, at the time Hopkins was an unknown MW with a loss, who couldnt win his next world title challenge, but now he is one of Jones biggest wins, but at the time Hopkins wasnt a great win and not as good a win at the time as Jones win over Griffin, though Hopkins is a far better fighter than Griffin and now in hindsight is a better win
Calzaghe over Lacy. Because Jeff Lacy has never been the same after that beatdown. Judah has gone on to have a very good career.
What difference does that make to the quality of the win? :huh So in your eyes, Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor 1 was a better win than Duran vs Sugar Ray Leonard 1?
2 completely different fights - you can't really compare them. Tszyu vs Judah was a short display of a fast & flashy boxer getting the better of Tszyu in the first round and the old master gaining the upper hand and sparking him out in the second round. Calzaghe vs Lacy was a much anticipated KO of Calzaghe that never happened, and the underdog instead schooled the young lion of the SMW divison for 12 rounds and absolutely destroyed him, removing his heart and confidence in the process.
Your thread is asking people to choose which is the better win, then you ask them to explain why they made whatever their selection is. In order to choose and then explain which is the better win, comparison must be made on certain criteria.
It has to do with the hype he had prior, nothing to do with the actual merit of either fighter. Lacy was hyped through the ceiling by slack jawed yanks, that's what makes the Sugar Joe victory so special and unquestionably great.
A 2nd round KTFO is often a more merciful act for one's career than a 12 round decision, one sided beat down :good But, I wonder who was more humiliated? I go for Zab "chicken dance" ****er
