Better win?

Not really.I'd say getting dropped six times in two rounds against the only puncher on your record is more than enough evidence to raise questions about a boxers punch resistance.We can't simply ignore that and pass it off as merely a "bad matchup" as most Frazier apologists tend to do.Nobody ever did that for Wladimir Klitschko when he lost to Corrie Sanders.

 

Then Ali must have been one of the weakest punching fighters ever.

 

Yeah, if not for Foreman, I don't think too many would be questioning Frazier's chin. For what it's worth he was taking more flush bombs from George than Duran was from Hearns, and still getting up.

 

Hearns was a far quicker and much more accurate than Foreman.Foreman had heavy hands,but I wouldn't put him in the same category as Thomas Hearns as a puncher.

He certainly wasn't a strong one,that's for sure.

 

Foreman-Frazier is the better win.
Frazier was the undefeated undisputed champion of the world.

 

foreman was the first to stop Frazier and did it the quickest and most convincing fashion. And while Hearns stopped Duran the quickest and the most convincing fashion , Duran was stopped before Hearns already & @ a lower weight. Also he was down as soon as 135lbs.

 

Yeah nobody expected Hearns to utterly overwhelm him - except Hearns.

Foreman-Frazier in my opinion.

1. Frazier was much closer to his peak performance than Duran was. (Less than two years past Ali I vs right about 4 years past SRL I)
2. Frazier hadn't lost since said peak performance. He'd looked flat, but hadn't lost badly or to challengers who never should have had a chance.
3. Frazier was a much better heavyweight than Duran a Jr. Middle.
4. Duran had been a pro for 16 years by the time of the Hearns fight. Frazier had soaked up plenty of punishment and didn't have a style or body made to last, but he'd been a pro for half that amount of time.

Sums it up for me.

 

Hearns-Duran is a great performance

Foreman-Frazier is a great win

there is a difference

that's not to say that Duran's scalp wasn't a great one for Tommy to have though, but the thread title asks a specific question and it is not a contest, definitely Foreman-Frazier.

 

Fraizer was a more highly regarded Jm than Duran.. But HTH and pfp, i dont think a whole lot seperating them.... In a pfp Sense ill compare them,, Both short for their weights,,, At Lw and even WW Duran was on you at least as much ,but also had great footwork.,,But at Jm he was tamer, Joe more pressure.. Power Fraizer,, Durna was still a good puncher ,but far from a ko artist.,,, Defense- Duran by a longsho0t,even though he lost some speed he was stilll slick,, Fraizer bobbed and weaved but not all that effective as some might think, overall his offense was his defense.,, Chin -Duran by far.. Even at Jm and in his fight with Hagler, I never saw Duran seriously hurt... Dejesus hurt him a little and dropped him but never close to being in danger of being Kod... I thijk Fraizers chin was only a little better than average,it was his heart that kept him plugging away and able to absorb those punches(outside of Foremah) .. Saw him hurt numerouls times Quary,Bonavena,Manuel Ramos and a couple others??? Journeyman Scrap iron hurt him .. The first 3 could bang even though small hws,.. Ramos was bigger but kinjd
limited and just a brief stay as a top 10 contender ,, He could punch but thats it.

Duran that gave Hagler fits and beat up Davey Moore is at least as capable as Fraizer,probaly more so
But the Duran that fough Hearns was flat though, ,, And Fraizer was considered the Man at the time,, Duran highly regarded too but,everyone agreed clearly not the fighter he was and only sometimes elite.

 

Well, neither Frazier or Duran were in top shape in 1973 and 1984..... BUT! I will add Frazier was still at his legit weight class, where as Duran was reaching for things up at 154 and fighting a peak Hearns..... Foreman's KO over Frazier holds the most water.....
