Sportsbet spokesman Haydn Lane said they do not usually take many bets on which round the fight will end but a punter who had just opened an account wanted to plunge $10,000 on a first round knockout raised suspicions.

"We also started taking a flurry of bets all of a sudden. They were only small bets but to get them in 10 minutes was interesting to say the least," he said.

"We thought it odd that we were taking all these calls, it was certainly interesting to be taking the bets in a flurry.

"We didn’t get stung as bad as some other bookmakers.

"We suspended betting on which round the fight would end at 3.30 Perth time. Normally we would go right to the bell.

"From a personal point of view it looked like he thought he was going to get pretty severely beaten and didn’t want to take punishment.

"As a punter I’ve never seen anything like it. It was extraordinary."
