Well, boxing gyms only became legal a few years ago. There are a couple of gyms here in Reykjavík and one in the north somewhere, but it hasn't taken off yet. For a population of 350,000 I wouldn't expect any pros anytime soon I don't think Jón Páll ever boxed, and if he did he would move like an oil tanker
Are you still going to throw down some serious cash on BHop? I seem to remember you saying that you were going to drop a K or something like that...?
I just had to ask because if he is giving out even odds on it thats much better then I can get anywhere else
Yeh if your dead set and dropping that kind of money on BHop I would wait until the night of the fight to make your bet, im sure the odds will at least get slightly better on him. I could see them rising to +220 or so
You're betting several grand on Hopkins to beat Calzaghe. Good luck. Can I just ask - how many Calzaghe fights have you seen?
I'm sure Calzaghe is going to win but I'm 'only' going to bet $1000 on it. This is boxing and anything can happen. Not worth risking $10K just in case.
Does it worry you that Tyson86 is throwing $$$ on Hopkins or are you convinced that he's got it wrong?
I have about 15 parlays that I started months ago; ALL ending on Calzaghe. I am very confident in him winning, I was just being sarcastic with my last comment
You put forward a convincing argument, and I'm half tempted to renege on my $1000 bet. But I think you're wrong about Calzaghe and his best opponents being 'vastly overrated'. He's far more than a 'southpaw swarmer'; he's learnt from mistakes in previous fights and improved to the point of being the most complete fighter in boxing today. Calzaghe can fight going forwards or on the backfoot. He can box beautifully or go to war in a slugfest, and adapts accordingly. Against Kessler he finally showed the willingness to use his skills and make life easier for himself instead of following his macho instincts to fight toe to toe. All this without even mentioning his incredible handspeed, combinations, workrate and stamina (have you ever seen Calzaghe look significantly visibly tired in a fight). He'll be wary and prepared for Hopkins' illegal tactics including headbutts and elbows. My main concern is hand damage - a genuine worry especially considering Calzaghe's increased power at light heavyweight. That's the only reason I'm staking $1000 rather than $1K. Are you really going to put $10K on Hopkins? Please limit it to $1K - you'll thank me later.
