They could do much better, IMO.

Basically tell the fighters/promoters ''this is what we want and will pay $x, anything else and it's $x less 50% or whatever''.

It's too easy for people to make a shitload of cash and hardly fight anybody, whether in the States, on the continent or even here.

 

true but we are getting there now. HBO turning down the Klitsckos and Mosley vs Mora is a start. They also turned down Lopez vs Conception as they wanted Lopez in with Caballero.

 

Yeah, it looks like some progress is being made, they are at least making smart decisions rather than just doing what Oscar tells them to do!

They probably only passed on Mosley vs Mora because it would be up against Marquez vs Lopez on Showtime..... I know what I'd choose :yep

As Beeston says; as long as amateur boxing remains as it is, the next breed of 'Elite' talent just will not come through. There are obvious exceptions; Lomachenko and Camarrelle have very 'pro' styles but one of them is waiting for 2012 and the other doesn't seem fussed about turning pro.

I think its on a steady decline; I doubt I'll be watching it in the next few years. Luckily we still have the past to watch and discuss, because I've been getting increasingly disillusioned with the sport with every passing day.

I'm not sure what Arum is trying to achieve by touting Cotto as a potential Pacquiao opponent - I mean, he looked good last time out but that was against Yuri Foreman, it doesn't change the fact that he was well beaten by Pac.

As for Margarito, I don't hold as much against him as many people do on here, he tried to cheat, was caught beforehand and served his suspension.... but should have to at least earn a title fight/career high payday that Pac would bring.

If they really want to go belt chasing, why not fight Floyd in the meantime whilst the situation becomes clearer at 154.....

Cuz Floyd's being a twat and not signing. Lil Floyd has untill Friday to sign the deal or Pac is moving on. You're right about the Cotto fight though, it's a waste of time. A joke. Margarito I'm not that happy about either. If Floyd doesn't want none, and I don't think he does, then Pac should try to fight somebody like Paul Williams or Berto. P-Dub is the fight that makes sense. P-Dub has said many times that making 147 is nothing for him. In fact he's fed up of having to eat so much so he can fight higher than 147. He only moved up cuz none of the welterweight division wanted to know. He's an exciting fighter, known as the most avoided man in boxing today, and if Pac won, it would send his legacy into orbit man. That's what he needs.

 

Williams would be a great back up plan if Floyd doesnt sign. I dont think it would happen though, too much risk for Pac's team (note; Pac's team, I genuinely beleive that no fighter 'ducks' anyone, it will be his 'advisors' that will make that decision).

 

Potentially, 2011-2012 could be 2 years of fights i wont forget for a long time, i dont mind a year like this has been so far. Things take time to build up in boxing,money,promoters/fighters personalities clash,"politics",mandatories,economic climate....blah,blah... Its like a bitchfest really.
I think the big ones we want in each weight class will all come to fruition, i'm chill with a "transition" year - 18 months, things will happen my brethren, patience.
To be fair we had a few cracking fights at domestic/euro/world level, not been a bad year really imo.
