In light of the scrutiny that Joe Calzaghe has received for essentially saying exactly what Bernard Hopkins is stating here, the question has to be asked:

    Yes and No.

Joe is ducking Chad because he's the champ and Chad is a respectable lightheavyweight who deserves a title shot that Joe didn't fight at 175 to win.

If Bernard really wants another shot at Joe he'd fight Chad.

Chad has paid dues...beat people Bernard beat Tarver/Johnson.*

But Bernard has nothing to prove by beating Chad...high risk...low reward because Calzaghe might say ****'em.

It appears neither of them fancy it. That will hurt Calzaghe's legacy more than Hopkins's as B-Hop's resume is already clearly stronger than Calzaghe's so Joe needs it more, but it does seem like neither of them fancy the risk.

Agreed. Neither man really seems to want to fight Dawson, whatever the reasons.

They fought at a catchweight but he won the Ring Lightheavyweight title

High risk low reward. Either guy would take the fight in a heartbeat for $10 million.

They fought above 168 and below 175. That is a light heavyweight bout any way you look at it.

I agree. If Dawson were more of a draw (not his fault he's not at this point, really) I think either JC or BHop would fight him. But, as you said, right now there seems to be too much risk for the possible reward.

Yep, Dawson's route to a fight with either Hopkins or Calzaghe is very clear: drive a big truck of cash to their door.

The ball really is in his/his promoter's court right now.

    no they didn't.

hopkins-pavlik and hopkins-wright were at catchweights. hopkins-calzaghe was not.

You are right. The promoter would have to take a loss on the fight in hopes that Chad would win and he would get the money back in future fights.

I don't think Hopkins ducks anyone. His record speaks for itself. Dawson should get some more wins and build is reputation/credibility. Beating up Tarver shouldn't give him a shot at Hops.
