Yeah I missed his final card but remember thinking that I was a little surprised how close he had it at the time. I think it may have been after the 10th he had it even but Rigo clearly won 11 and 12 so he had the right winner in the end
Yeah he was biased, the minute he said he know Donaire well outside the ring I knew he was gonna give all the close rounds to him.
Yeah I watched with the top rank commentary as well. Every close round and even clear Rigo rounds they just looked for an excuse to give to Donaire. When the knockdown came they were overplaying it and acting like Rigo was seriously hurt (it was more a Toney vs Jones jr. knockdown, a balance thing). I had Rigo winning every round apart from the round he got knocked down (I would've scored it a shutout without the knockdown) so I was hoping I wasn't the only one seeing a boxing masterclass. To hear that the HBO team scored it the same as me is truly shocking tbh.
The commentary was horrendous and Sheridan's drivel about ring generalship is always a turn off. But my initial scorecard is/was 115-113,and it won't change greatly but it was still an absolutely masterful display and a pleasure to watch. But I did think the scores could be no more than a four point split for Rigo.
And how many times did he say "Great shot from Nonito" when it was Rigo who landed? Guy's a nightmare and I expected good things from Timmy, but he didn't pick it up until about the 9th when he talked about Rigo being open to the right counter and left hook, which I for one picked up on at least four rounds earlier(with the left anyway)
114-113 I think. Wasn't he scoring it for Top Rank though, so he'd probably been shown the script beforehand.
I watched the HBO telecast thank God, I saw Donaire winning rounds 5,7 and 8 along with a 10-8 in the 10th
I think Arum is on record as saying he had Donaire a point up going into the 11th. I've not sen it yet, but hearing some quite substantially different opinions, although they all agree Rigondeaux won. Well, apart from a couple of mental pinoys, but they're not real people.
I actually been happy with HBO commentary for the past 2 fights, alvarado rios rigo donaire, it seems like they are just commentating and whoever looks better they say it... not ride the favorite guys nuts like before.
To be fair, buncey called him on it back in the studio and openly said it was biased commentry and scoring. I think Bradley was influenced in his scoring because bob was very overpowering "no way can anyone give rigo that round, how did you have it Tim?". In fact worse than bob's scoring was bradley's lack of colour. I know people used to **** on Lewis saying he had no personality but Jesus Christ Bradley was shocking.
