i cant believe this ****, they take an event thats estimated to sell in the neighborhood of 1.5 million ppv buys and try to exploit the negatives in it. how come every time boxing is in the spotlight the media always has to make it negative or compare it to mma?

when ufc made what seemed like an apparent mismatch in couture (a natural lightheavy who is atleast a decade past his sell buy) and lesnar (who is said to have to cut 20 or so lbs to make the hw cut off) it got nothing but accolades, with not so much as a single critical shout from any writer or analyst. furthermore, nobody was mentioning boxing.

Dont get me wrong, i regretfully think boxing is on its way out, but why is it that any shortcoming boxing has has to be cast into the spotlight, especially on a night like last night?

With MMA's aggressive expansion they figured boxing is their natural enemy. They try to make MMA seem more bad-ass while in reality it reminds more of 2 men dry humping each other than fighting most of the time. Obviously many journalists are a part of this.

The problem is not with the sport, the problem is with the haters. Although last night promised to be an absolute farce it turned out to be the best thing that happened to boxing this year. It was something beautiful so **** the haters!

ya but the media creates this whole them vs us mantra, and people eat it up. also, wouldnt you figure the WWE to be there chief competition? when spike did away with the WWE the ultimate fighter was right there to replace it, and it thrived like a mu ****a. so you would think mma is actually stealing wrestling's audience(white male, 18-35)

Of course, that's totally true. However they don't want to be associated with fake wrestling and chose boxing as their enemy instead. That's supposed to give them more credibility. In fact boxing and MMA have different fan bases, boxing is more about the skill and the science, while MMA attracts the viewer who just wants to see some people beat the **** out of each other. (at least that's how I see it) As the fanbases are different, MMA's popularity doesn't hurt boxing, it only results in a smear campaign like in the article you posted.
