it's actually funny that if u want big arms that working the triceps is a much smarter muscle to work on because it takes up 1/3 of ur arm muscle that is around ur shoulder. so increasing ur tri will also make ur bi look bigger.
They don't do it for sports but to look good for the ladies-which come to think of it,is not that bad a reason.
i think they are wankers addicted to porn and given the mechanics of the movement are training for endless wanking (or is that the hammer curl)?
I used to think biceps were useless in boxing. Anatomically, it makes much more sense to work your triceps for boxing. But look at all the top fighters physiques, a lot of whom don't use weights a all; they all seem to have way oversized biceps and no triceps. This content is protected
I just laugh my ass off at them. Years ago when I was at uni this guy would come in, you know the type fake tan, hair perfect, thought he was gods gift. Had arms like Arnold and the body of Pee Wee Herman. Total dick.
Excessive sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (cross sectional size for want of a better term) can limit the contractile force of a muscle, so going by your reasoning of triceps being the more utilised muscle in punching, it makes sense to limit sarcoplasmic hypertrophy in the triceps. My own feelings are that regardless of muscular size, you need to have a balance between the strength of the agonist/antagonist muscles with the aim of avoiding muscular imbalances. In the case of a fighter, I feel that a big pair of biceps is ok. My reasoning for this is that if you train your triceps to increase myofibrillar hypertrophy, the size of the muscle will be limited but it's contractile force (power) will increase, thereby increasing punching power. As long as the bicep isn't 'tight', size shouldn't really be an issue, within reason. There is a school of thought that you can disengage your antagonist muscles to improve short term athletic performance. A common example of this is disengaging your hip flexors via static stretching to enable you to jump higher. Bearing these facts in mind, theoretically, you should be able to disengage your bicep (antagonsist) via static stretching to improve your punching power.
bodi, thats why people think weights are bad for boxing, because they dont know the difference between the different types of hypertrophy, sarcoplasmic hypertophy is nothing but beach muscle
The biceps only 'look' bigger. They are not. You cannot see a tricep flexed and contracted into a globular bulge because the elbow doesnt bend backwards. That picture shows the layering of Jones's? tricep. Put together and they are actually THICKER which make up more of the total mass of his upper arm. This is a perceptual problem you must understand.
I think if you have strong bicep/brachilais and contract those muscle hard ,when launching an uppercut, you'll add a little speed to the punch. Strength with the addition of flexibility in the biceps/brachialis muscles is what is essential. :think
