Who wins? On paper this should be obvious, but Tate impressed me in the training footage he had with Dempsey. So mobile for a 6'7 fighter from that period, solid jab as well. Looks more skilled than most Carnera performances imo.

Big Bill is a dead ringer for Vitali Klitschko. Anybody who could beat Big Bill would have mopped the floor with Vits. Shows how far boxing has fallen.

A superficial refresh of Bill’s record suggests that his durability/chin were perhaps not the greatest.

He looks pretty good in the footage however - Dempsey himself looks terrific imo.

Jack had a great team of sparring partners to sharpen all facets of his game.

That’s a pretty scratchy version of the footage.

If you like, here is 1) a clearer BW version and 2) colorised version: -

He does look quite good on film, but did he do enough otherwise for us to believe he'd beat Carnera? I do think his skills might become null in the face of a crooked ref and a hard right hand, considering his bad collection of knockout losses, even going into when he should've been at his peak.
Here's some footage of him fighting Kid Norfolk, and although William was a middle and light heavyweight during most of his career- I do think that bigger men contending against smaller and more skilled fighters serves as decent food for thought, considering the boxing landscape at the time.
I do agree that he looks more sophisticated, as it's very easily seen, Primo likely has too many things in his favor if a fight were to happen.
