I think everyone understood the commercial value of the fight, and it may not have been exactly who he wanted to fight, and to be fair i heard smigga on the radio saying dodo had to get to the back of the queue, so there was a bit of a turnaround. But i think it was more from the point of view smith saying why should you get the chance now. I don't think that he for one minute sat there and thought, i can't have him. Obviously warren guides the ship, i fully understand that, but it's a yes or no frm the fighter at the end of the day. I just like the kind of silence coming from the smith camp of late.
You not read that Boxing News piece yet then? In all seriousness, Dodson has always been a talker and Smith never really has been (from memory it was his brothers doing all the talking pre-Quigley?). I wouldnt read too much into the noises coming from the camps.
haven't managed to yet,is it online, or just on paper? I do need to keep up with current affairs don't i!!
Not on the website I dont think (hope not anyway, given I pay for the magazine every week!!). To be fair, your boy comes across alright but I'm sure there's a mention in there of him predicting a KO.
my ****ing local newsagent doesn't buy it in, so will have to go and get it for a read me thinks. is it the most recent edition?
i know, i dont have any personal preference either. both are liverpool fighters and after this i'd like to see either one of them go on and lift a world title. ya know what though, i dont think smith WILL be coming forward all night! ive just got this feeling that hes gonna try n play the counterpuncher like he did against quigley and save his energy for the 2nd half of the fight! i personally think smiggas gonna see the right hands coming, as tony usually throws one or two jabs before letting it go. one things for sure, if smigga doesnt perform like i expect him to, ill hold my hands up and say i overrated him.
I dont think it's a case of over/under rating either boxer. I reckon they're both at a fairly similar level at the moment. As for the counter punching thing, obviously we dont know until fight night, but I get the impression that Smigga took that approach just for Quigley. Given that the Quigley fight wasnt the best, I reckon Smigga will revert to type and come forward against Dodson. Also, i dont reckon he'll be too over awed by Tony's power so wont mind getting hit too much. I really do think this is a close fight and fancy Dodson to take a decision because he's been more active. Although, just occurred to me, that Smith will have a lot more fans in the arena than Dodson. I dont want to look like I'm getting any excuses in early, but Tony will probably have to win rounds fairly convincingly to get the nod. I still reckon he'll do it like. (watch Smigga spark him out in 1 now - just to make me feel like a numpty)
When you say more active, what do you mean? Dodson hasn't fought since the quigley fight, whereas smigga has fought 3 times since then. I do agree though that smigga will revert to type against dodo, as he fought a specific fight against quigley.
Oh right. smigga does tend to do it in bursts. thing with dodson is that i think he telegraphs his shots a little bit, as smith can sometimes with his right hand. If one of them can show a bit more styyle and disguise this could hold the key to winning the fight
