Funny that you're quick to label Quigley & Dodson 'holders and grapplers' and yet I don't seem to remember anything of the sort when those two fought.
Smith was as culpable when it came to employing spoiling tactics last night.

Bad fight last night in my opinion.

FW's ref didn't help one bit either, very pro Smith in the clinch??

2 domestic fighters at their very best!!!

Yet another extremely poor bill from FW, why the **** i pay to watch these glorified sparring sessions i don't know. Some of them undercard opponents were a joke!!! Then there was the African fightin Bellew for the Commonwealth (historically one of the most prestige belts in the business, now laughable)!!!!

I was very surprised that the arena was half empty too!!

I think Smith steps forward too much with the jab. It's a powerful punch but because he steps in with it all the time, he doesn't have enough room to follow it with meaningful hooks etc. Any clever opponent can just tie him up.

I think he should mix up the jab. Step in with it every now and then but also use a flicker, range-finder type jab and just chill out and let his punches flow a bit.

He just wrestles too much for me. I swear at one point last night he was about to knee Dodson in the face

De gale would make Smith look silly different levels all together, De gale is lacking the experience right now but if the fight was made tomorrow, for me De gale would have enough for Paul Smith.

because smith is a natural body puncher and theres no way theyr gonna let him do that.

im through ****in arguin anyway!! in my opinion, smith needs some more big fights and only then can we see if he will be able to fight at world level.

im not sayin hes great, im just sayin hes not as bad as everyone on here is saying, everyone stating he has found his level when hes only had 2 half descent fights!!! give him a ****in chance, see what he learns and how he progresses!! :conf

What a **** fight. Smith is not technical in the slightest, maybe for a few seconds in the 11th round i think it was. He'll never stop a half decent fighter because he doesn't work to do so. No combos, no breaking down of the man, no jabs to open up other avenues, just waiting for an opportunity to land right hands. And i'm not having it that it's because he's emotional or whatever bull****, that's what fighter he is now, because he's been like this for ages.

Both of these were totally eclipsed by Tony Bellew who has the personality to order foe me, talking about John Conteh and being a student of the game post fight, come on this was quality. All the best to Tony Bellew.

I reckon if Darren Barker fought Paul Smith right now he would blitz him. Difference in class>being the bigger man.

Dodson vs Quigley - Very Good free-flowing fight :deal
Quigley vs Smith - Atrocious fight, holding and hugging :deal
Dodson vs Smith - Atrocious fight, holding and hugging :deal

Can anybody see the common denominator ??

Smith showed good heart last night by sticking with it throughout the first couple of rounds when it looked like it would be stopped. Even when it was clear that the fight wasn't gonna be stopped he spent the last six rounds lunging in and getting frustrated that Dodson wouldn't stand in front of him and let him tee off. Like previously mentioned, any counter-puncher at a decent standard would pick him apart and stop him

I am now convinced that even a Frank Warren scoop against Steiglitz/Sartison would be of no hope to him.

When DeGale and Groves step it up they will both beat Smith. If Korobov decides that S/Middle is his weight he will DISPATCH Smith. Froch, Bute, Abraham, Dirrel, Kessler and Green are lightyears ahead of him

I genuinely do not see how he could ever make it to World Champ. I would also pick Magee to comfortably beat him
