For the benefit of Avidlemon and a few others, I thought I would show up as I am pro Dodson and the question was asked if the Dodson followers would show up if he lost. Well, here I am. I thought it was one of those fights were it could have gone either way. Even though the cuts were caused by head clashes, they could just have easily cut Doddo up the same way - he just happened to have his head slightly lower than Smith and got the bit of luck in them exchanges. I thought the ref was on his way to stopping it around the 4th when he sent Smith to the corner to have his cuts checked. Credit to Smith for the way he fought on throught the cuts. I really thought I would see a more all-action style from Doddo but there was obviously a game plan to negate some of Smiths strengths and keep his composure. But in all honesty I don't believe either man really did enough to call themselves British Champion. However, Paul Smith does have that honour. Going forward I can't see where there is left for Dodson to go. He may find himself having to win the next SM or LHW Prizefighter to get any more title chances. As for Smith, without sounding biased and bitter, I feel we've seen the best of him. He could potentially get a decision over Magee for the Euro, if Magee had an off night, but I feel he would be found wanting at world level. But it's all about opinions and that's mine. And if Paul Smith should prove me wrong, then I'll have to come back here munching humble pie again. Won't I Avid? :good
Well considering Barker totally hammered Bendall before Smith fought him is a starter. Barker is too good for Smith.
Props for coming on mate. I didn't see the fight like you did, smigga was the clear winner, dodson came to survive, and i think you know that deep down. Smigga is improving, but he impressed me last night, a lot more thought went into what he did, i just wish he wouldnt load up on the right so much, and rely on it. You are the only pro dodson guy to come on, so cheers for that. I was suprised at dodson, and i think his game plan was to smother smiggas work on the inside, and for the most part he did, but whenit was open play, smigga knew too much. The point deduction made no difference to the outcome, just widened the gap really
it means nothing that mate. so may fighters have fought the same guys, and not done what they ought to have done based on some one elses performance to be fair. Barker has been fed some **** opponents too, and the guy he beat to win the british was ****ing dog ****, barker was handed it on a plate. You know it.
I think it means alot more than you say, Barker totally dominated Bendall one fight before Smith and stopped him in the 7th when he had only fought 16 times, Smith next fight 24-0 got beat in a tight 10 round fight, I think it shows alot. Barker has come on leaps and bounds since then and is a level above Smith in terms of skills.
trouble is i dont think we will ever find out. I think there are things barker does well that smith doesn't and vice versa. I just couldn't believe how dodson went into his shell last night.
Lets be honest mate there is not many fighters according to you who Smith wouldn't beat, you still think he would beat Miranda?
he may well have dominated bendall, i accept that, and maybe smith should nt have made the fight so close, that the ref could have called it one way or another. But I just don't think things are as simple as being able to say, "so and so did this to this fighter, so this other fighter should take him out It don't work like that. I can understand what your thinking is though, i will concede that
I agree with you as relates to the point deduction, it never changed the outcome at all in my opinion. And we both agree with Tony smothering Smiths inside work, however I thought that was one of the better aspects of the fight for him, he appeared to have a level of success on the inside, himself. But I don't think Tony would take any great heart from that. Without sounding like a smart arse and as someone who has never stood in a boxing ring, never mind trade leather with another man, I was just disappointed with his work rate. I feel the challenger ALWAYS has to go the extra mile to get any decision and THAT was were the fight was won or lost.
dodson got a bigger heart than marco mate:hey barker does look impressive so far but his opposition aint up to to much. this would be a good fight and bring the best out in smith as barker wudnt hold grab hug bum and wat not:thumbsup
i havent seen enough of barker to be honest, but from what i have seen, he looks like a good fighter... more controlled than smith. as for your comment, theres nobosy who can destroy smith. severely outpoint yes, but not destroy!! that mans chin is like iron and he has the will of a warrior, just like john duddy of ireland!! :hey
Dodson was crap last night but Smith wasn't better. I genuinely don't see ANYTHING that Smith does better than Barker either to be honest
