Certainly not under Dempsey's rules, and he survived under his own rules...so I think it's fair to say he passed that particular test. Being inferior is not the same as definitely losing all rounds. The fight, to me, hinges upon how long Bowe could remain in control from the outside and how many rounds he could take from Dempsey once Dempsey continues to get in. You've dismissed comparisons to Ali-Foreman earlier in the thread, and I agree with you in stylistic terms, but there is one interesting point in that Foreman-Ali was defined in part by the toll Ali extracted each time George got in. What is the toll Dempsey pays for getting inside against Bowe? These are the key areas to me, so it's not as simple as saying "once Dempsey gets in, that's it." The question wasn't even entirely a given against Firpo.
The difference between Bowe in Holyfield and Bowe in Gollata is certainly as wide as the difference between Dempsey for Willard and Dempsey for Tunney though. I don't see much difficulty for the prime Bowe in out-pointing Golata either. Though you never know.
A. I don't necessarily agree with but B. I do. he may have problems with his durability and persistence, even the jab, but i don't think willard stands much of a chance and while a willard victory may be a win-win for you it would be so effective an arugment because it is seriously unexpected. willard doesn't have the skill set on film or on record to take out bowe and if he did, it would be a shocker
Interesting. I kind of assumed that he always had that stylistic issue, and that the fight ended any controvesy about why he didn't fight Lewis.
it depends a lot i think in how far from prime bowe was. that bowe looked very different that the version from holyfield 3, who was very different from the version from holyfield 1
Nobody beats ex-flyweight Fat Willie in a 4 round bout. Nobody. :nono Not even the legendary Butterbean, a mere Prince of 4 rounders in comparison.
Bowe would probably hit Willie Meehan in the nuts and somehow get away with an NC instead of a DQ loss. Fireman Jim Flynn would headbutt Bowe, prompting Rock Newman and his homies to start a full-blown riot.
This is the exact reason why ive always picked Tyson over Bowe in a dream fight. Bowe likes to fight on the inside and you simply dont do that against certains fighters. Guys like Dempsey and Tyson. Bowes size advantage could come into play in the later rounds. On paper Bowe should win this due to size and skills. But knowing Bowe, he would make it into a brawl and Dempsey is one of those guys you dont want to let in too close to you. Im 60/40 in favour of Bowe.
