to be fair bb, meehan was ahead at the final bell. twice. making them four rounders doesn't negate the result (why dempsey repeatedly fought four rounders against meehan is beyond me)

i agree that four rounds doesn't give an indication how 15 rounds would go but dempsey dropped 2 decisions to him, fair and square.

the other all time greats who were behind after 4 rounds, came back to win as the fight progressed. they usually didn't four rounders but dempsey choose to and it has to affect his record. we can't just assume he would have won if the fight were longer, nor can we assume other greats would have dropped 4 round decisions if their fights were shorter

If fights were 4 rounds, everyone would have pictures of Zab Judah on their avatars

J,like quantum physics, the beholder affects the results. Yours is a good example of choosing to use Jack Dempsey as the sole EXAMPLE of a prominent fighter behind a bout after FOUR rounds. If Willie Meehan was given any chance to beat Jack Dempsey ,when he was champion, in a title distance fight of 15 rounds ,why was he never mentioned as a viable challenger for the title that Dempsey owned ? After all Meehan ,king of the 4 rounders beat Dempsey twice,as you correctly state ? Because fat Willie Meehan was an anomaly, impossible to ko in short 4 round bouts. He was never considered a viable threat to ever be heavyweight champion. Now
I have to jog 4 times around the block, cause I can't go 15 times around the block.J.Signing off.:hi:

Harry Greb eliminated Meehan in 1919, doing what Dempsey was never able to do, dominating Fat Boy. Greb used the total domination as a springboard for a title shot, but Dempsey wasn't interested.

    Miske then finished Meehan's bris.

Dempsey takes out Bowe in five round or less. Dempseys power didn't diminish against bigger men. Bowe is no stronger than Willard or Firpo, although he was a much better all around fighter.

I don't understand this type of post at all Robert. I think Dempsey has a really good chance and actually would probably pick him now, but 6'5 81" reach 230 Bowe to beat the 6'0/1 78" reach 190lb Dempsey a joke?

And not just any big guy...this guy:

Arguably the most technically succinct big guy in history.

    Dempsey v Bowe.
It would be a very entertaining fight. I'd have absolutely no qualms paying the PPV fee.
And, no, I wouldn't wish to see Jimmy Young v Oliver McCall on the undercard. Thanks.

What would you like to see on the undercard? Fighters active in the relevant years for each only. Keep in mind superstars won't be fighting on an undercard.

    Anyone at all, of course.

RU, whether or not Jack Dempsey would have kod Riddick Bowe or not,is one thing, but to constantly belabor his abilities today, whilst great boxing people as [it bears repeating] Sam Langford, Damon Runyon, Hype Igoe,
Nat Fleischer, Max Schmeling [as a young fighter sparred with Dempsey in Germany],Mickey Walker, Jack Sharkey, Ray Arcel, Bill Gallo, and other
prominent boxing experts, raved about the prime Jack Dempsey, tells me
that on this forum, for whatever reasons I cannot understand,Jack Dempsey's legacy is constantly tarnished .Of that I am certain. This is why I almost alone, have to defend his place in Heavyweight history, as the
PEOPLE who saw JD,and his successors, emphasized his greatness.
I believe he would thrive on a Riddick Bowe, as Jack when he was at his peak was tremendously fast and mobile, and tremendously strong for his
190 pounds. Speed and toughness KILLS,and Dempsey had this in spades.
    Cheers RU:good
