According to IBF's rules it can't be Charles Martin because of the top 15 rule for optional defenses. http://www.ibfusbaregistration.com/ibfusba_02APR2014/images/pdfs/IBFChampionshipContestRules.pdf Search: ctrl+f: Optional Defenses
And it'd not like the IBF couldn't slip him in when they "correct" their rankings...if anyone can explain how Amnat Ruenroeng's last challenger got a genuine IBF ranking I'd be shocked. The organisations can play with their rankings for any number of reasons, heck Teper is banned so can take him out, move everyone up one and viola Fury gets a #15 in the next update
Well, that's against their rules, and we know that IBF follows their rules extremely well, just see: Lex Fury for instance. Quote: - "2.Optional Defenses In the interim periods, the Heavyweight Champion may enter into any contest with any heavyweight contender rated in the top fif teen (15) boxers in his weight class as set forth in the ratings of the IBF/USBA and subject to the approval of the Championships Chairman and the President."
Hardly breaking the rules to REMOVE fighter who has been BANNED for doping and shifting fighters up. They could also use an arbitrary "hasn't been active enough" reasoning to drop someone and make space in the rankings
Thanks, they could move Teper for Hughie, also two slots isn't rated at all... Their ratings seems very poor done. Also: why only top 15? Why not top 40 like WBC? http://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/index.php/ratings?layout=edit&id=139
Hot names other than Martin... David Haye? Anthony Joshua? Robert Helenius? David Price? Carlos Takam?
Helenius will announce his April opponent next monday.. I hope it´s Stiverne but Hughie wouldn´t be bad either. I´d say Helenius by KTFO.
Hughie Fury wins 12-0 vs Helenius, total mismatch. Stiverne-Helenius would be fun, Stiverne should be the favourite here if he comes in shape.
It's not Martin, Peter Fury wrote "top ten". That means it shouldn't be Thompson or Price as well... Fight with Joshua would be huge, I'd love to see that.
