Shane Mosley vs. Miguel Cotto: I would pick the Mosley of 1999-2002 to stop Cotto in the mid to late rounds. It would still be a good, although somewhat one-sided, fight.

Bernard Hopkins vs. Jermain Taylor: Hopkins has aged as well as about any boxer ever, but 40 years old is still 40, even in this era of fighters competing at a high level at advanced ages. Given the fact that Hopkins lost by the closest of margins (he actually would have kept his title if one judge hadn't insanely given Taylor the 12th in the first fight), I can't see Taylor winning if Hopkins was just a couple years younger. What do you guys consider Hopkins's prime? I'm going with 1996-2001.

    Louis v Marciano
    Louis v Charles
    Dempsey v Tunney
    Johnson v Willard
    Most of Langford v Wills.
I'd give both Walcott and Charles decent shots against Marciano, were they in their respective primes.
    Ali Frazier 1
    Robinson against about 30 opponents!
    Tszyu v Hatton

"Styles make fights" has become established opinion "set in stone" on this one but what about career timing? Why can't that be set in stone too?

Ever wonder how Frazier could beat Ali to the draw at long range but not Foreman? Is it so unreasonable to suggest Joe was much more battle worn by then?

After all, Frazier had dominated one era already. The natural order of things was for a new champion to take over about that time.

Frazier had climbed over prime fighters like Quarry, Ellis, Chuvalo, Bonnavena and even an unbeaten Muhammad Ali to get to where he was. Was there anything much left?

I can't believe the vast majority think Tyson would have easily beaten Holmes both being in their primes.

Larry was doing very well in there and was frustrating Tyson like mad, this is a fighter who was a shadow of his former self. True he was knocked out but he was well on the way to surviving the round until he got his arm stuck in the ropes whilst firing an uppercut back. I think Holmes would survive a few scares and beat Tyson on points or possibly stop him late.

Frazier would not have beaten the Ali of the
    Williams fight,imo.
Ali went to the ropes in the FOTC because he trusted neither his legs or his stamina.
Foreman beats Frazier 365 days a year every year. Frazier said he was too big, Joes fans' just can't deal with the 2 fight massacres.

The facts And antecedents of both men say no. Prime focused Tyson did beat easily men who had a jab And fought like holmes. Holmes never did beat anyone like tyson. Shavers was the closest thing And he nearly did stop holmes.( shavers was **** next to mike, tyson would keep holmes in the floor)

how about Ali of the Cooper fight? Could the Ali of that fight beat Frazier?

what was Ali fighting in Williams anyway? A statue with one kidney.

It's amazing how good a fighter can look with nothing coming back isn't it? The same time frame he fought Mildenburger and was not quite so breathtaking.

Ali was also against the best fighter he fought up until that point. You can only do what the other guy will let you.

Don't forget, Ali was still good enough to beat the best guys Frazier ever beat until that point in Bonavena and Quarry. And Ali beat both easier than Frazier had.

Absolutely. The Frazier who had been through Ali, Bonevena x2, Quarry, Ellis, and Chuvalo always, always loses to Foreman.

    Career timing.
