Apart from being an iconic ref as he was present from the early UFC days was this guy any good? His early appearances in the UFC were down right awful. Iv watched him let fights continue when guys were out cold and still being hit repeatedly with clean blows. And why did he get to steal Mills Lanes immortal words "Lets get it on!" ?

I thought he was the best UFC referee. Along with Yves and Herb. Even though Dean gets a lot of crap, I think he's a solid referee.

I know what you are saying, Royce held on to submissions for about a minute after the tap. But back in the days..everything was almost a tryout. There were basically no rules, I think no one at the time knew what to do. Rorion just probably said, **** it lets start next week

The stoppages were lime that because the rules were originally that only the fighter or his corner could stop the fight unless the guy was out cold.

Mills Lane was hardly the first to say " let's get it on"
