Promoter Frank ****** says opponents are running scared of WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly.

Cleverly will attempt to defend his title for a sixth time against an as yet unnamed opponent on 17 August.

****** claims IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch turned down a fight against the Welshman.

"I know he's the real deal and know what he's capable of and I think deep down so do these other fighters," ****** said.

"I think that's why we get these little swerves every now and then.

"I don't think Nathan gets the credit he should for what he's done. He's had some great wins.

“We were quite close to agreeing something, then Bernard Hopkins for some reason went very cold on it”

    Frank ******

    Boxing promoter

"He's been unlucky as well with a couple of injuries last year which held him up a bit."

****** admits he has been "annoyed" in his attempts to arrange a big-name opponent for Cleverly.

Froch retained his IBF super-middleweight crown with a win on points over Mikkel Kessler at London's O2 Arena in May.

Cleverly, who retained his WBO title against Robin Krasniqi in April, has previously targeted an all-British bout against Froch.

"We offered him [Froch] £2.5m to fight Nathan, for Nathan's title in a catch-weight fight so it wasn't at Nathan's weight," ****** said.

"Nathan would come down a bit in weight.

"And he [Froch] turned it down and he starts slagging him off.

"You look at who he was fighting at the age of 26. Go and look at the records and compare the records."

Although an opponent has still to be named for the Welshman's next fight on 17 August at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena, ****** is currently negotiating with Russian Sergey Kovalev.

****** also claimed he had been in talks with the promoter of IBF light-heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins and had been close to a deal.

Cleverly has made no secret of his desire to unify the light-heavyweight division by beating Hopkins and WBA champion Beibut Shumenov

"I had been talking last week with Richard Schaefer [Hopkins' promoter] and I think we weren't far off," ****** added.

"We were quite close to agreeing something, then Bernard Hopkins for some reason went very cold on it.

"But Bernard did that before with Joe [Calzaghe]. I thought we made the fight with Joe at least three or four years before Joe finally fought him."

will check-out Cleverley YouTubes. Been reading more 'n more about him on the web.

Is he just a Brit favorite, the way Hatton was, or is he ready for prime time?

he's the best in a weak division imo.

ridiculous workrate, great chin, plenty of balls, lacks ko power, and gets tagged too much because he loves having a tare up.

avoided much like calzaghe was due to high risk / low reward nature, though these other 175 fighters could actually make more money fighting clev than they could any other fighter at 175.

Read around. Looks like Cleverly - Kovalev might even get made. Big step up for Clev and HBOs very interested in Kovalev though he ain't got so many names on his resume just yet.

If Clev can take this (but I don't think he can) it would potentially be a step into the big time. Which sounds really unfair since it's Clev who's already a beltholder.

The 'Big Names Avoiding' thing is an ongoing theme with F W. Get's some interest in fighters without having to risk 'em in the ring.

Big props to Clev and F W if they take Kovalev, but I've a feeling the plan is to sacrifice some Welsh lamb on HBOs altar.

HB you might not of noticed but LHWs just become a pretty hot place to be. The landscape's changed a lot in the last coupla weeks.

You might wanna look over the new blood if you like exciting fights.

If Beibut could find his gloves and Chad his mojo, it'd be better still.

175 has been a complete waste land for so long

you had Jones fighting complete bums whilst juiced to the gills

a complete overated fraud like tarver getting recognition

a man who was passed around like a complete bum at 168 like glen Johnson suddenly becoming a name in the horrific 175 division

a complete bum like chad dawson purely making a name for himself on HBO infront of gullable American audiences through beating previously mentioned HBO bums

look what happened, a 160 fighter in his first fight at the weight became the man in the division

then a 168 fighter became the man in his 1st fight at 175 in calzaghe

175 has been a joke of a division for so long

Cleverly will dominate this division when the cowardly American based market dare to step up to the plate and fight him.

Froch wants to stop at Super Mddleweight, he said that on many occasions.

The winner of Cleverly v Kovalev will start making some noise though

if you think that Clev was ducked a bit before, just wait until he beats Kovalev. he'll be ducked like the plague. no one will fight him in the UK (not that they ever did before mind) it'll be all on the other guys terms. and it will be a very short list.
