If you weren't at the Lanardo Tyner fight last night at the Palace you missed Tyner in the post-fight interview call out Vernon Paris (with Paris watching at ringside) for a fight set later this year. He also said the winner would attempt to get a fight with either of the Peterson brothers. Tyner vs. Paris would be a great boost for local boxing and it's awesome to see two undeafeated fighters who aren't afraid to risk a loss at the local level.
The card was good...Brian Mihtar looked good, but there were a few fights that were a little boring. But overall it was well organized and well planned. In the past I've noticed some of the fight nights were very poorly planned and alomost unwatchable.Vernon Paris fights again on Feb. 22nd in Dearborn.
I hear you. January 07 had a somewhat iffy card with a couple of dive fights. But that wasn't a Donofrio card.
I couldn't make it last night. I'll be at the show in Dearborn. The last one there was a good card. I also went to the K-9 fight at EMU. I hope Tyner smokes Paris when they fight.
I saw Paris make his pro debut and he was classy with the fans after so I guess I have a soft spot for him. Be a good fight.
I had a chance to talk with Tyner and Paris last night (also got my pic taken with Mary Jo Sanders) and both guys were very cool about bullshitting with the fans...I personally don't have a favorite between the two,but I think it will be an awesome fight. Contrary to that...I think there are two many undefeated middleweights in the D,especially considering Andy Lee can beat all of them. And on that note, what the hell happened to Aaron Pryor Jr? He hasnt fought since last December.
Hey! Long time, no see! I was at the card too last night. I was kind of disappointed Paris wasn't fighting, but I saw him in the crowd and he said he'd be fighting in Dearborn on the 22nd (like you mentioned), so I might go to that card. Brian Mihtar looked impressive; sharp, skilled, and powerful. Lanardo Tyner made short work of an overmatched opponent. I'd LOVE to see Paris-Tyner later in the year and would definitely pay some good money to see it. The Palace would get a big crowd for that one. Paris is my early pick, but Tyner's strength can cause him some problems. Who would you take? Both are too green for the Peterson brothers though.
As far as I have heard he was done fighting (for what reasons I'm unsure),but I had also heard that he was supposed to be getting another fight soon (he was originally scheduled to fight on the Banks/Lee undeercard but never had a n opponent). So I guess to answer your question...I'm not sure, lol.
Yeah my computer took a crap and I had to save a little cash to get it back up and running. I'd have such a hard time picking a winner, but I would thinl that Paris' speed and shoulder-roll style would give Tyner trouble. And I could'nt agree more about the Peterson brothers, those two have just had way better competition so far for Tyner or Paris.
Thanks for the update on that card guys. If that Feb. 22 card is still on, I'll try to make that one. I'd take Paris over Tyner if they fought. And I'd keep both of them away from the Peterson brothers for the time being. There is a nice feature on Vernon Paris as Prospect of the Month in the March 2008 issue of Boxing Digest.
I'll be at the Feb 22nd fights. I heard Tyrone Brunson was supposed to be on there as well. I haven't saw lara around the neighborhood for a while, haven't heard a thing about him.
That would be cool. Two of Detroit's best prospects fighting and then looking to fight one of the two best prospects out of Washington DC right now.
