It's one of those times. No worries though as the UFC will continue to deliver the best fights on a regular basis, even if there are some weaker fights due to injuries. If this was boxing it would suck cos inevitably a whole card would fall apart.
Scurla, TBH I 100% agree with you...at this extent it can't be only injury...it's getting ****in ridiculous...
This thread and some of the replies (Scurla's and Ne5ville's) are a picture perfect example of how truly terrible we generally are (as people), innately, at statistics.
What ?? That since Overeem has been pissing hot it's ****in suspicious that some many injury happen all of the sudden ??
It also happens to be a fan site where hundreds fans post OPINIONS. Shame that statistic went right over your head. Seeing as you obviously have the inside scoop here would you care to enlighten the rest of us mere mortals as to why the spate of fighters on illegal hormones, TRT, and apparent injury's is at such a high?
It's hard to say for sure.....did these injuries happen just as a guy walked into the gym and wanted a surprise sample? The Overeem was an obvious example how he fled the country to avoid the test but what about the rest?....
I dont think they are faking injuries to avoid the test. Purely speculation of course but maybe they are picking up injuries due to not using during training It simply could be a case of misfortune, but it does make you wonder
It does but Usually Dana doesn't reward guys after an injury. Vera got injured when he was supposed to fight Silva again perhaps to get an easier fight but then he got shogun....which is even worse.
I dont think the random testing are common place though, seems to have been just Alistair who's been caught with one. But most guys know they are a possibility now. And the UFC are putting on more shows with more fighters than they used to, so again in fairness a good percentage of them will be injured during training just by law of averages Anyway, short of going to the gyms and demanding **** samples myself, it will never be more than speculation about the timing of this injury crisis on my part.
The UFC has held 206 events since November of 1993. Let's say, on average, that maybe one fighter from the whole card (undercard and main) gets injured and is unable to compete, out of every... 3 events. I'm actually being a bit generous as it's probably more frequent but for simplicities sake, let's go with that. Now, maybe some cards go without injuries and it's a great night. Fantastic. However, it is mathematically and statistically inevitable that there are some cards that are going to have more than their statistical share of injuries. Some are going to have the average: 1/3 (or one out of every three events). Some are going to have none and some are going to have more. And some are going to have a lot more, but those will be pretty rare, however it is likely to happen given a large enough sample size (in this case, the 206 total events). So when we have a single card facing what seems like an unusual amount of injuries, we look for alternative explanations (your "theory" regarding PEDs) as opposed to simply recognizing that it's more than likely just a rare stastitical occurrance that given the number of events was eventually bound to happen and will probably happen again (to a slightly lesser or greater degree). Had this happened at some other time you probably would have tried to impose some other sort of...."theory" as to why it happened. But hey... conspiracy theories are just as valid as the mathematical theory of probability, right?
Even if you're on gear you can obviously pick up injury's. The only difference being recuperation, the severity of the injury, and the ability to fight with said injury. All of which aren't exactly measurable.
