I was on ESPn deportes today they had a big article of rigondeaux turning pro and i just found out that the guy training him is the same guy that got fired when training gamboa after the jimenez fight. Arena Box was not happy with the direction that he was taking Gamboa and could've been a disaster and fired him and now i find out that they hired him to train rigondeaux. Note: ismael salas got hired after the jimenez fight to train gamboa is the same guy training lara and is doing a very good job. And Gamboa has shown a lot of improvement since him getting hired and lara has looked very good also I just dont understnd why arena would risk it with rigondeaux with the great talent he has. We'll see maybe penell will train him
Well, he probably will not train Rigondeaux (and the others) forever. But he is fine for bringing these athletes in shape. Under his direction Gamboa became the explosive fighter we used to love (although with known handicaps). However if I understood well all these athletes are under the Arena banner, and Arena already fired the man once. What I have seem from him, he seems to be quite an authoritarian, which is not bad for those Cubans, who are used to that style of being told everytime what to do. Definitedly they need guidance. Summa summarum he is not a bad choise at this stage ...
No Ismael Salas is the current trainer of Yuriorkis Gamboa, but Osmiris Fernández is Rigondeaux current trainer.
He really needs a trainer like Roger Mayweather who can teach him the crafty pro stuff he never had to use in the amateurs. Rigo always fought very pro-like, yes, but not used to fight pros. The problem with most Cuban trainers that they're using the same amateur methods and stuff they learnt. If Whitaker is involved, that's good. But to communicate in 2 languages? That's not.
He's an extremely talented and accomplished amateur, no guarantee whether that will translate into a similarly great pro career. Chill man, we are very excited, but nobody said he's the God of boxing... ... he's just the God of amateur boxing.
exactly i do think he needs a good trainer just because pro boxing its going to be different and he needs someone to really ease the transition as much as possible for him
