Who else was he going to fight?

He wanted an unfit, overweight and inactive Fury for one final payday, but he got rejected.

He has already said he won't step in the ring with AJ or Wilder as they're too big and powerful, and would put him in hospital. He doesn't want to fight any legitimate heavyweights.

Who does that leave for one last payday? Usyk is a good choice. He isn't a powerful puncher who is going to hospitalise Bellew, and it gives him good money, and a chance at the belts.

He hasn't really done anything so far to justify getting this fight.. beating a crippled Haye, who would have stayed retired under medical advice if he didn't need a couple of cash out fights doesn't garner my respect.

If he beats Usyk, or gives him an a good fight, my respect will certainly go up. It's a win win fight for him really, no one expects him to do anything, but has a chance to cement a good legacy by connecting with one big punch.

 

Good post above and I think Bellew in his final fight, turns his back at the first sign of trouble.

He then sails off with all his PPV loot extracted from PPV Mugs and goes straight into the PPV Hall of Fame on the wall beside fellow PPV legends Toe Haye, Odd Harrison, Joseph Parker, Charles Martin, Hughie Fury and Paul McCloskey.
