Really got his dosh the hard way!Hope he is ok and enjoying a well earned rest. I think he was a spar partner of Bruno as well.?
Sparring partner for Bruno, Lewis, Tyson, both Klitschkos, Purrity, among many many other named boxers...!!!
Martin going the distance with Wlad and not being hurt or knocked down kind of proves how overrated Wlad's power is. He landed numerous flush punches on a washed up fat Bigfoot and couldn't hurt or knock him down. Fought Bigfoot again a year or so later, landed numerous flush punches again and still couldn't hurt or knock him down but the ref did stop it because Martin wasn't punching back. Martin fought tons of top guys but most of the time he was there just trying not to get knocked out not to trying to win. Most guys who have tons of loses are willing to fight anybody for a payday. You can look at guys like David Jaco and Marion Wilson. Most guys who have winning records hand pick their opponents because they don't want to lose their 0 or have their records look bad.
Agree to a point. When I was working with Keith McKnight and we fought Bigfoot Martin, Martin came to win that fight. Though Martin had lost 14 or 15 straight fights up to that point, the promoter was interested in showcasing Martin against some other up-and-coming boxers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and surrounding areas.
According to some, this counts for resume and resume is more important as skill level. In that regard, Bigfoot is a ATG. Seriously though, I have massive respect for a guy like him. Tough as they come.
EXACTLY what I was thinking He's better than Holyfield! Guys like him really paid their dues, and then some.
