    Golota's injuries sound really frightening.

Byrd weighed in as a middleweight in that fight? Vitali couldn't continue due to a torn rotator cuff which required surgery to repair. Where did both of their careers go after that? Byrd went on to be battered bloody twice by Wlad and used as a punching bag by Povetkin. Vitali went on to win the WBC HW title twice having never been knocked down.

I believe Golota sustained a fracture in his skull (maybe someone out there can confirm that? In any case I'll bet he had a concussion) Probably a good reason to "Quit".

What's more "disgraceful" is quitting without an injury forcing you to do so.

Like Samuel Peter did against Vitali. Roberto Duran did against SRL in the rematch forever known as "No Mas" Tyson quitting after getting bullied by rate "B" HW Kevin McBride just to name a few examples...

if the fights he lost hadn't been stopped, he'd have been knocked down. He was lucky they were stopped, else a SHW being dropped by a guy who started life in the MW and LHW divisions would have been too shameful to live down.
YES, Peters is not a strong opponent, god knows how he became HW champ.

not the same thing AT ALL, Duran was fighting one of the greatest of all time.

and Tyson went in wanting to quit! hardly shameful if its your intent... Mike didn't give a ****.

Byrd had nothing to do with Vitali's injury. Vitali had over 2.5 hours of surgery. If Vitali had not quit he would have had no career in boxing. Buddy McGirt lost his career with should injury. Anyone who believes that Byrd could be Vitali is an idiot..................even Byrd admitted it...........

Vitali had a severe shoulder injury and the mere fact that he came back to dominate shows he made the correct decision.

I thought it was a pure bottle job when I first watched it, but yes that is true.

I remember reading about this and I'm pretty sure Golota collapsed as he was walking through the door to the hospital. That's when they done the MRI and told him he could have died had he have continued.

And SRL was fighting one of the greatest of all time in Duran. Yet you think Duran quitting with no injury is not the same thing at all? You give him a pass because SRL was great? I don't understand the logic there. :think

How do you know Tyson went in wanting to quit? If true, that's shameful right there to dupe his fans that paid money to see him win.

I guess bad baseball teams should just quit in the 4th inning because they're playing the World Champions?

Vitali Klitschko started his career as a 20 inch 8lb below minimum weight, yet he battered the HWCotW, Lennox Lewis for 6 rds before he was retired by a ring physician for cuts sustained due to head rubs and thumbing.

Byrds first fight was at LHW, 169lbs....he fought twice more under the HEAVYWIEGHT limit then went on to win 2 legitimate HEAVYWEIGHT titles, and several highly regarded minor HW titles.
