A fight that over 100 million people listened over the radio with no social media or Pac vs Floyd?

    Financially, obviously Mayweather - Pacquiao.

But in terms of importance and the social implications Louis-Schmeling is one of the most significant sporting events of all time let alone the biggest boxing match ever.

Crazy how much boxing has evolved but still can't match some of the other big fights in history that made it with limited marketing ability compared to today. Just imagine listening to Pac vs Floyd over the radio or having to wait for the result the next day on the newspaper, yet 100 million people listened to Louis-Schmeling II in what was called the most important fight in the history of the world. Damn I love boxing

My point is that greatness is not just what you do in the ring but how you affect or how you perform under certain social environment and still come out on top. Greatness in boxing is more than just your W's and L's

It's financially HUGE due to modern broadcasting and media etc.

This fight isn't going down in History like Ali Forman or many other great fights. Unless of course it's an amazing fight.

I heard Bob Arum say that 60 million people in China alone tune/tuned in for each Manny Pacquiao fight on free TV. I think at least 300 million will be watching around the world tonight.

Hagler - Hearns was not bigger event. It was a greater fight though.

In terms of the significance of event, Johnson - Jeffries and Louis - Schmeling, Ali - Frazier 1 are bigger.

In terms of anticipation, Tyson - Lewis, Dela Hoya - Trinidad, Tyson - Holyfield 2, Chavez - Whitaker are close but did not fully live up to the expectations.

If the fab four were around today, with todays technology those fights would be bigger. We wouldnt have had to wait 6 years either.

Louis Schmelling is historically more significant. Todays fight is basically about money while L&S was about national pride & racial I guess considering the Nazi's were in power.
