I'm bias as i get all of the coverage in the uk and from where i am it's the biggest fight in a decade.

how is this fight being hyped to esb'ers around the globe? how is it comparable with the de la hoya fight last may?

i think its just as big of a fight to boxing fans but to normal people who dont know anything about the sport the hoya fight was way bigger

It's not, I mean the fight is big. BUt Dlh-Mayweather was just huge.....I think that fight has helped Mayweather get known more. If it wasnt for the DlH fight and the Dancing with the Stars stint, this fight wouldn't have broke a million buys.

No doubt those two fights are the biggest of the decade.

Hatton v Mayweather aint even close to De La Hoya v Mayweather. I'm in the UK as well, and this is without doubt the biggest fight since Lewis v Tyson back in 2002 to British fans.

However, Hatton's only known to the hardcore boxing fan in the US and Mayweather just became a crossover star in the States when he fought De La Hoya. The 24/7 series has given Mayweather more exposure, and Hatton will obviously have increased popularity in the States as well due to HBO's series.

De La Hoya v Mayweather done 2.4 million PPV buys in the States, this fight will do around 1 million.

De La Hoya v Mayweather also broke to live gate record, and reached $19 million.

The purses for both Mayweather and De La Hoya is more more as well.

When it comes to money and PPV etc, not even close.

Because we are in the UK we get the feel for the fight better as Hatton's British, and he gets so much press. He's more known to the general public over here than De La Hoya.

This isn't on the same level as Tyson v Lewis or De La Hoya v Mayweather for size, although it might well be a more competitve and exciting fight than both those fights.

Yeah, this doesn't touch Floyd/Oscar. For one thing, there was a slim chance Floyd would lose that fight, so there was some suspense. With this one, unless you're biased toward Hatton (or against Mayweather, for that matter) it's pretty much a foregone conclusion what'll happen - Floyd UD.

thanks robbi, i think that sums it up.

i think this is the biggest fight with two fighters at their best for a long time. reminds me of a leonard v hearns or holyfield v bowe type of fight.

In terms of overall popularity, this isn't as big. But it feels bigger for people such as me who are in the UK, because we didn't really get that much hype over here about the Hoya much, whereas this fight is all over the newspapers, TV, Sky Sports, etc. Even some people who never normally follow boxing are really into this.

Too much hype my fellow ESB brothers, I cant believe the lengths hbo and gbp have gone to, to get in as much ppv sales. In some ways i feel disgusted that so much is being made over this fight, because in truth it doesnt even come close to Leonard vs Hagler or Ali vs Foreman, or Frazier. So, im going to take this fight like any other fight i have watched.

True, that's what makes boxing so great. One punch in the right place can change everything in a single second.

I believe De La Hoya v Trinidad was bigger than Hatton v Mayweather. That was a huge fight, and it done 1.4 million PPV buys. Certainly bigger in the US, although any American fans who post on here would be better to give their opinion than myself as I'm in the UK.

De La Hoya was unbeaten, so was Trinidad who had many Puerto Ricans all over the States on his side.

De La Hoya vs. Mayweather was a much bigger fight. It was a cross-over fight in the sense that general sports fans and even the general public were interested. And the PPV numbers reflected it.

I am more excited for Mayweather vs. Hatton, but I am a realist, and it's not a bigger fight or event. Could be a better fight though...
