Yes he did. In the 6th round. You have never watched the fight so don't try speaking on it. So are you denying he knocked out Bugner? That's 2 KOs and several knockdowns against very good fighters. I said: "So what exactly is the evidence that Tyson hit harder? Shavers knocked more people out so that is already in his favor..." because absolutely said he measures power by observably measurements. Ie knockdowns. Had nothing to do with you... Don't try acting like you're some big honcho. You aren't **** to me. Sure on a forum we can talk about whatever we want but then the point of threads and subsections would be useless. We have a set way of doing thing here if you want to talk about irrelevant topics then go **** off to another forum where they let you treat people however you want. Try and be respectful when talking on here because this is a forum and a certain amount of maturity is required when posting here in a public setting. I brought up the Jameson fight because you were making it out like Tyson was completely dominant at the lower with which you consider most of Shavers career. Their careers aren't that relevant so let's forget about them unless that are specific to a claim or evidence that we use.
Because you are an absolute idiot I've attached a youtube vid for your viewing pleasure. Also, the Bugner fight was stopped because of a cut. Nice try. And because you keep stumbling on your own argument the rest of your sh*t post is null and void. Here you go moron. Ruled a slip. ROUND 6 starts at 21:47... This content is protected
Let's not lose sight what does thread really about! It's about arguing and insignificant point far beyond its logical conclusion. Both of them have crushing power. Let's not thatget in the way of something emotional hair-splitting. It's not the debate of the century (Ali's height, I say 6'3")but it what we have. This debate must never end!!!!
Wow. This sh#t train chugs on down the idiot tracks. Threads seem kinda bland since the great rollover of the board.
That is clearly a knockdown. I don't give a **** what the referee ruled it. Ref's make mistakes all of the time. Cobb wasn't moving whatsoever so there isn't **** to slip on. Use common sense. Bugner was down in the first round and the fight stopped on a cut in the second...but according to you that has nothing to do with punching power. At least research your argument before you try to make it. We're done here.
Shavers had the harder one punch power. Tyson the harder in combination. Similar to a Marciano or Dempsey vs Louis analogy. For so many hwts to say Shavers hit them hardest holds great merit. Especially coming from Ali who fought more devestating punchers than any hwt champion.
What I mean is that his raw power was to a certain extent hidden by his other attributes. Most everyone who saw him knew he could hit like the clappers, but he had so many other things contributing to that power that it was easy to overlook it when comparing him to other noted big hitters like Foreman, Liston, and co.
I consider everyone's opinion. I like to be challenged and, if possible, proven wrong in my beliefs. What I don't like is for someone to keep hammering his points across as if they were the only truth of the matter, while backhandedly berating me for not blindly agreeing with them. It's absolutely more likely to be the hardest punch in the fight. Which isn't to say it's categorically going to be the hardest punch; only that its probability of being so is higher than any of the others. There's already plenty of evidence that Tyson hit harder than Shavers. It's been presented in this thread. Shavers having more knockouts is a meaningless statistic without a consideration of who he fought and how he beat them. Shavers's punching power at the upper echelons was pretty good, I won't deny that. But the simple fact of the matter is that he didn't do nearly enough there to justify his place as hardest hitter of all time. Cooney beat the stuffing out of both Norton and Lyle, and destroyed Norton far more emphatically than Shavers did. Quicker too. Ali was rocked by a couple of guys in his time, and was well past his sell by date when he fought Shavers. Holmes, as already pointed out, was knocked the hell out by Tyson and dropped in an almost identical way. Simply put, nothing Shavers did in his time puts him head and shoulders above the pack.
