Notice how we didn't have much trouble finding five good wins for Carnera in the lineal champions thread?

Things will be decided harder when we get round to Briggs!

Briggs couldn't beat Gross,McCorkindale,Uzcudun, Levinsky,Neusel , or dead man walking Schaaf?

Tell me something ,if Primo was so good how come he needed"assistance" to beat Ace Clark and Bombo Chevalier ,two 4th raters?

    You don't know that.

Carnera was obviously a lot more confident in his ability to beat the contenders of his day than Briggs was.

Briggs did not fight anybody elite unless it was unavoidable.
He obviously didn't, unless all his fights were fixed!

Not many hit harder than Briggs. On skills, perhaps Carnera was the better.

Carnera didn't look very good in that fight. Could it have been a fix, with Louis mob connected manager? Just throwing this out there as fixes can work both ways and you think some of Carnera's fights were fixed!. Then you smack your self with a contraction by saying. We know Clark was threatened that if he didnt lose his life was in danger. We know that Chevalier's second rubbed capsicum of pepper into his eye.Thats what we know.
Carnera didn't have a say about jack ****, he himself said he wanted to quit several times but wasn't allowed to.
What elite fighters did Carnera beat outside of Sharkey* Questions still remain about that fight

Loughran whom he outweighed by 84lbs and broke his toe when he stamped on it. The other elite fighters Carnera faced butchered him and so did also rans like Leroy Haynes, once the protection was gone.

I think if Briggs were to have been transported back in time, to the 1930s, he would have been very confident in his ability to beat the contenders of that time.

He would have been a lot smaller too. Briggs admitted using PED's.

The 1930's outside of Louis was a weaker lot.

Being perhaps the next big think from Brooklyn, I am familiar with Briggs and followed him as an amateur. Than I saw Savon wax him in the Pam AM games in one round.

Meet him once too, he's a really big guy, with a teenager like goofy way of communicating. Dude must have a 20+" neck and 14" fists.

Sure, as Carnera was past his best against Louis. He still lasted far longer than many good fighters. Let's not act like Lewis was in any danger to lose the Briggs fight either.

Not that many, besides quite a few fighters did better against Lewis than Briggs too.

My point is that this argument doesn't make any sense. Carnera wouldn't be knocked out in one round against Lennox either, but who would give him credit for that?

I'm almost sure that Briggs wouldn't beat Uzcudun.
Neusel and Levinsky are 50-50 fights.

I'm also almost sure that Briggs wouldn't beat Sharkey. I also wouldn't bet on him against Loughran.

Shannon Briggs had fast hands at one point in time and threw a lot of punches. He was not a typically hard puncher. This is a myth created due to his high first round knock out percentage.

Steve Holdsworth, one of my favourite commentators views can be heard on this clip from 1:20 until around 2:05

Plenty did better against Louis than Carnera. Rammage; Perroni; Pastor; Braddock; Godoy etc etc.

Even Galento did better than Carnera, while it lasted.

There's no doubt Briggs had Lewis in danger (during the first round). Only a handful of Lewis' opponents had that kind of an opportunity against him.

I'm just following the basis for your argument...

...Mine was a response, using your own benchmark.
