Both guys had absolutely unreal power - Cuevas in the hook, and Lopez with the right. But were also similar that they came up as relatively average fighters, then won the title and went on a several year tear in the late 70s.... Cuevas to a greater extent, and I'd say that Cuevas was the better of the two. But purely as punchers, who was more devastating?
I'd say Cuevas, but I'm not gonna argue anybody who picks Lopez. One edge I'd give Lopez, his power looked more effortless. Cuevas had murder in his heart everytime he threw the hook... he threw it with full force. Danny just looked like he was touching guys with the right.... and they dropped like flies.
Danny Lopez 42 6 0 39 K.O's 93% "K.O/TKO" per win Pipino Cuevas 35 15 0 31 K.O.'s 89% "K.O/TKO" per win Virtually equal. Cuevas more spectacular....and broke bones. Going with Little Red, by a shade, if we are talking P4P.
CLASSIC!!!!!!! I have always said , in my lifetime (66 yrs), the 2 hardest punchers I ever saw were Danny "Little Red" Lopez & Pipino Cuevas. EVER. BY FAR. XPLOSIVE POWER. GODGIVEN POWER. Great thread!.
