Bigger Win? Calzaghe or Hopkins

Of the two choices, Hopkins beating Trinidad was the bigger.

I would consider that Hopkins best win however, whereas Lacy is not Calzaghe's best win, so it's a somewhat strange discussion.

its worth baring in mind that trinidads entire reputation at middleweight was built up because of one win against william joppy where trinidad used illegal hand-wraps :-(

Because stepping up a weight class to beat the number one fighter at the weight division above and number three P4P on his home territory is a significantly greater achievement than outclassing a hugely overrated and untested novice.

 

It really depends on whether you mean "bigger in terms of true quality of opponent" or "bigger in terms of vaulting the winner to stardom due to perceptions heading in".

Rather than thinking about both Lacy and Felix now , think about how descructive they were back when they could fight.

I go with the Hopkins fight only because I thought Trinidad had answered questions at 147 and 154 with impressive style, where as Lacy had only beaten a sun burnt Reid and still looked raw.

I see it as about the same, strip away the p4p factor and you got 2 fighters who were serisouly outclassed but at the time not many people knew it.

legacy wise I think Hopkins gets more from Tito than Calzaghe does from Lacy but that is more abou the man Tito was at the lower weights than the guy he beat.
