I think the thread is about which of these fights is the bigger win. IMO Pac's win over DLH opened a lot of historic opportunities for pac. But if you ask me which of this wins is more impressive or better, hell Hatton's win by wide margin

Hatton, most of us knew pac would destroy an ageing and drained DLH. I thought Hatton would get taken down that night but he executed the fight well.

    Hatton hands down!

Tszyu may have been getting on, but he performance prior the facing Hatton was demolition job on Sharmba Mitchell.

De La Hoya only put on 2 lbs between the weigh in & fight time, what was all that about? I take nothing away from Manny, he skooled Oscar, but Hatton's win over Tszyu is far more impressive!

At the time, Tszyu was ranked in NO.3 P4P. Where in the P4P rankings was Oscar ranked at the time of facing Manny?

    - Hatton by a 100 full 26 mile marathons.

    - Did you not see the artillery he had to walk through?

    - And more importantly, and the fundamental reason why is I had to pay £14.95 for a 2am showdown. I had to do no such thing for the Pacquiao/De la Hoya massacre.

Easily Hatton, Tszyu was past it but Oscar was totally shot and drained.

At the time I would say that. The more time's passed, I think it's far less certain, though.

    Are you ****ing kidding me?

That was a somewhat diminished version of Kostya Tszyu, yes - but that version of Oscar De La Hoya was less than 50% of what he'd once been.

    Ridiculous question.

Other than making him a draw and granting him crossover mainstream appeal, that is one of Pacquiao's most meaningless wins and no real boxing fan takes it remotely seriously. Yes, I understand a lot of people picked DLH beforehand but that doesn't make it an upset or even a very good win when you look at the actual circumstances in hindsight.

I guess it does depend what you mean by "bigger win". In terms of star-making breakouts, Pacquiao RTD8 De La Hoya is obviously bigger. In terms of being a significant victory in the context of boxing (leaving out the hype and celebrity aspect), it's easily Hatton RTD11 Tszyu.

I'd have to go with Hatton-Tszyu. Pac-Oscar is certainly underrated on this forum, and Pac's performance tops Hatton's, but a reigning Tszyu coming off a dominant win (even with his age and inactivity) is still a more impressive scalp than a pretty obviously past-prime and weight-weakened ODLH. I can definitely see the valid counterargument here though.

Did 98% of people have Oscar over Pac after seeing the weigh-in pics? :deal

18 out of the 20 experts polled by The Ring magazine picked Oscar to beat Pac.

    :deal:deal:deal

That's 90% of people within professional boxing. Very rarely do you see a landslide that wide for such a big fight.

I'd say Hatton. It was his first (and probably only) win against an ATG. Pac already had Barrera, Morales, and Marquez under his belt. As far as exposure after the win, I'd say Pac hands down as he became a household name in the US after that win.

As for entertainment, Pac-De La Hoya had to be the funniest beatdown ever!

Was that poll conducted before or after the weigh-in? :think

maybe not 98% of course but a very big majority did, I remember the odds going down on pac at the day of the fight but he still was a big underdog.

    Get real!!!!

Anyone who saw those gaunt pictures of Oscar abandoned ship almost immediately.

Even Roach had some quote at the time about having already won on the scales and that he knew Oscar was ****ed just by looking at him.
