Yes, but at lower weights that is. After Floyd retired without facing Cotto, Mosley, and Margarito at that time, Pac filled in the vacuum that was left by floyd's absence. So the idea came to test pac against bigger opponents starting with the easiest and significant one, the DLH fight. Without the DLH fight, PAC would remain in the LW and will compete in the junior welter for 2 years or so. In such a case, a clamor for Pac-Pbf would not be as overwhelming compared with the demand for Pac-PBF after Pac annihilated Cotto.

sorry but it was pacs plan to face diaz and then hatton to pick up 5 titles, when oscar cherrypicked him he took the fight of course oscar means big money and a steppingstone to stardom. Pac became a superstar after oscars plan backfired, he still went on to fight hatton. after that they moved him up against cotto to test him at welter once he proved he could beat guys at that weight, they wanted to make pac vs floyd, yet that didnt happen twice thus we had clottey and marg. mosley is just a payday fight that annoys everyone.

Man, can't you see the DLH fight is Pac's ultimate key to the higher divs? If pac losses to DLH, it is still certain that he will look competitive and ready enough to face the guys at 140. So, the Hatton fight is gonna get made just the same. And if pac beats DLH, surely not only that pac can face the guys at 140, people will start to entertain the idea of pac going against the guys at 147. And if pac proves himself at 147, then people go crazy over the potential pac pbf match

got to be hatton. i'm not a hatton fan but it does annoy me how people try their hardest to knock hattons victory over tyszu just because they don't like hatton or dislike his crude style.

was it prime tyszu? no, not quite, but it was a fantastic performance from hatton (one of the best ever by a brit in a british ring). the refereeing was too hometown but i don't think there was a fighter at 140 at that time that could have done the same to tyszu and its a shame people look to credit hattons finest hour constantly.

as for pacquiao v de la hoya - what a performance from pac, awesome to watch, just think that oscar was a bit of a corpse in their, though prime for prime i would always back pac to beat oscar anyway.

Tszyu was the dominant champion at the time that Hatton dethroned him. De La Hoya was without a belt and fighting at a weight he hadn't come down to in ten years. The Hatton victory is clearly the more impressive win.

without the DLH fight, Pac would have face Juan Diaz or any Lightweight at that time. pac will not immediately jump to Jr wleter. The Hatton fight probably will take place in 2010. Without the DLH fight, Pac Hatton would be laughable in the first quarter of 2008. The Bottom line is, Pac's fight, much more win, against DHL is a bigger win that shaped pac's career

Thread is about the Bigger win... the bigger win is not necessarily the impressive win

I agree:thumbsup but you said they choose dlh because he was the easiest opponent. I see it the other way around what oscar did to manny was the same what mayweather did to marquez. It was basically a big money fight for pac, that oscar showed up bad was a good thing for pacs carreer but could not have been known beforehand.

Both were tremendous accomplishments however I rate the Hatton performance slightly higher. Tszyu was at the top of his game at the time and was the terror of the 140 pound weight division. DLH was past his prime and did not realize how weight drained he would be fighting at 145.
