people say that tarver has a pretty good chance to making it to the hall of fame while most people consider taylor a fraud...

did tarver beat a shot jones twice? how about bhop having great run after taylor beat him twice?

Jones was more highly rated at the time & Tarver was given no chance before the fight.

Tarver - Taylor got two gift decisions over Hopkins thanks to his buddies at HBO.

I don't consider Hopkins anywhere near shot at that time. I think he was fighting at a weight that limited his offensive energies.

Taylor arguably didn't win, and Tarver had one win by brutal stoppage. Definitely Tarver here.

:yikes I know the HOF is pretty lenient in its criteria, but that's a pretty ridiculous statement. The day they inducted Jess Willard was a dark one - beat a great fighter and you might get in.

    Reasonable question about Tarver/Taylor, though.

    - Jones wasn't on the downslide until Tarver, but he was also coming off his weight drop; Tarver was right place/right time, one could say.
    - BHop was far from done (obviously), but the fights were coin tosses. One could say Taylor was right place/right time (the right place being "on HBO").

In other words, it's just a matter of opinion on what you value more: quality of opponent or emphatic nature of the win.

I'll puss out and call them more or less equivalent: notable achievements, with legitimate "but's" to go with each. Ranking one above the other is impossible to quantify.

Aw, **** it. Brutal stoppage is brutal stoppage and gooners comment is right about BHop tossing the fights away.

Tarver's win without a shadow of a doubt. Tarver actually beat Jones convincingly. Where as Nard.......... as good as threw the Taylor fights away more than Taylor won them.

The Jones that Tarver beat was not at 100% because of age and the fact that he was coming back down from bulking up to 193 for that f*cking farce with John Ruiz. Taylor was fighting a weight drained B-Hop at that point. If Taylor and Hopkins fought at 170 pounds it would have been lights out for Taylor.
