Bigger's Better XXVI: Liepaja, Latvia & Mairis Briedis vs. Lubos Suda RBR

Yeah, possibly. On his 'official' ledger the best names are Nagy and shot Danny Williams - both journeymen, but he destroyed them quickly which is a good sign. The hard-nosed Czech he is facing tonight is his biggest official step up to date and has loads of experience sharing the ring with excellent cruisers, but this is a showcase for Briedis and he will probably halt Suda impressively.

Brieidis also holds a Bigger's Better victory over slick mover and repeat BB contestant Fabrice Aurieng, who actually went on to capture a crown at the BB tourney before last.

 

Steve Smoger - the unofficial 'head referee' of Bigger's Better (I think he may have officiated in every one I have seen) is talking up the main event.

He is a huge boxing fan, not just a guy doing a job. :good

He lays it on a bit thick, proclaiming the historic enormity of the "first world title bout in Latvia". OK, now he is doing a job. :yep

 

I can't decide which is more exciting!!!

 

BB XXVI Final:

Sergei Maslobojev vs. Joel Tambwe Djeko, 3 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Round 1

Maslobojev is busting through Djeko's guard with the jab and quick slashing right hand. Djeko keeps his distance and pushes the jab ahead into Maslobojev. Djeko circles into the ropes and Maslobojev comes in with a big right hook under the elbows. Body shots targeted from outside by Maslobojev, very quick footwork allowing him to land and get outside clear of Djeko's own speedy reflexive jab. Djeko leans in and chases Maslobojev with the jab, brushing air. Maslobojev charges in and jabs Djeko in the chest, then cuffs the top of his head with a big right hand swung overhead while rolling to the side. Clinch.

It all worked out then, best was saved for last. The cream rose in this. No flukes. Djeko and Maslobojev deserve the berths as they are head & shoulders above the rest of the boys today.
