Wilde was known for beating much bigger opponents, infact some of his greatest wins were against fighters who outweighed him. Examples of such are Memphis Pal Moore (8 pounds) and Joe Conn (20 pounds). Who's the heaviest ATG you see Wilde beating?
I think he might beat Bud Taylor, who is arguably ATG at 118lbs, I'd probably make him a slight favourite, and he'd probably do better in a trilogy with Joe Lynch. He might also get the better of the wonderful George Dixon, but that's different cake-mix.
Pal Moore is a BW ATG imo. Joe Lynch too, or borderline, and he beat both of those. I don't like speculating on fights involving boxers from vastly different eras, so sticking broadly around Wilde's era, possibly Kid Williams. What a brutal match up that would have been. I suspect George Dixon, Abe Attell and Johnny Kilbane would prove bridges too far, but who knows?
I think I would too so maybe not one for this thread, but I never though about it before and now I can't stop thinking about it.
Wilde certainly impresses more on film, but McGovern was one of the hardest P4P punchers ever so that can't be ignored
