Never will I forget this BOMB It made lovers of the sweet science cringe Pisa Finai W Gary Lightbourne KO 1 Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States Wednesday 5 September 1984
allan Green KOing Jaidon Codrington. Was brutal cause of the effect of the punch but a lesser regarded one here is arguellos left hook that sent Escalara down and out in the 13th of there 2nd fight BRUTAL left hook
That's a good point, and I had been thinking along similar lines myself. I don't think Tommy could have caught Duran more perfectly than he did. Amazing punch, and most certainly an excellent candidate for the top spot. Why I eventually picked the Jackson KO was that Herol was winning going away at the time, and he was mulllered by a single shot that had him looking basically dead on the canvas. I was concerned for his health at the time, watching his laboured breathing as he lay there.
By far the biggest bomb I've ever seen was Rahman's KO of Lewis, purely because that type of shot hardly ever lands. Lennox was so complacent that he managed to get caught by a huge, telegraphed, furious swing. It was like a punch landed in a bar not in a boxing ring. Little technique, all rage and power.
I can't make up my mind between Rocky Lockridge sparking Roger Mayweather in round 1 or Juan Laporte sparking Rocky Lockridge in the 2nd round. I lean toward Lockridge over Mayweather because it had the classic Marv Albert call "Oh! Big right hand!". Honorable mention to Arguello over Billy Costello seconds after CBS announcer Tim Ryan questioned whether Arguello still had the big punch. Aw man, now I'm thinking of Arguello over Kevin Rooney.
The LaPorte/Lockridge hook off the ropes makes me think of Rosario sparking iron chinned, ultra durable Edwin Viruet. The same Viruet that went 25 rounds with a Duran who was trying to kill him because of how much he pissed Duran off.
Probably the most raw power I've ever seen in a single shot would be Shavers's knockdown of Holmes. The insane thing is that Holmes got up so easily, suggesting to me that Larry Holmes is not man, he's like a piece of iron. The most devastating punch in a visual sense I've seen would be Darnell Wilson vs. Emmanuel Nwodo. I shudder to think what happened to Nwodo's brains during that period.
Bob Fosters ko of Mike Quarry was nasty, it looked like Mike had befallen a nasty fate ! A never mentioned KO was Reggie Jones over William Guthrie Again another Nasty Lights out ! Also Isreal Vasquez scored a frightening 3rd round KO over Oscar Larios John Mugabi's 1st round Ko of Earl the Pearl Hargrove in a batrtle of the punches was also memorable.
The right uppercut that Eubank landed on Watson at the end of the 11th in their rematch. Awful because of what we know happened afterwards, but it was a truly awesome punch.
Bob Fosters KO shot on Tiger deserves a mention also M2S posted up some videos of Tiger that had HUGE left hands in them
That final right hand that Ron Lyle exploded on the side of Earnie Shavers to ko him in their bout back in the mid-seventies. It was unreal. Ron Lyle at his best.
