blah blah there's always excuses when it comes to Tyson. Yet he was the massive favourite going into the fight. He was only 30 years old, that should be prime, Holyfield was 4 years older. Holyfield simply had his number, and would have always have had his number.

In Tysons what your calling ''different beast until he went to prison'' period, he got knocked out by Buster Douglas. He's the most overrated boxer ever.

Iron Mike Tyson is per your post 'Most overrated boxer ever'.

I raise you the Matchroom UK Heavyweights over the past 10 years.

You must have stuck your head in the Fish Tank every time either Eddie Hearn and Anthony Bellew MBE were talking up the British Heavyweights promoted by Matchroom.

Personally, I believe Tyson's career ended at that elite level the day Jim Jacobs passed away; as once Don King stole him from Cayton, Mike essentially became a ticking time bomb.

Despite his raw, savage performance against Spinks, King removed all those who had previously provided stability, replacing them with parasites on his payroll and by the time he boxed Douglas, he was getting his ass handed to him in sparring by Greg Page.

Teddy Atlas would likely argue that it had been that way from day one, and that Cus simply placated and enabled him because of his potential.

You have nailed it right at the very start of the decline. Once Don King appeared he was on the slippery slope which became more obvious as time passed.

Then there was no way he was going to be anywhere near his prime again after spending 3 years in prison no matter how dedicated he was mentally.

Really enjoyed his career and for anyone to say he is the most overrated boxer should watch another sport.

I agree, and it's not surprising your new/old engagement-baiting friend/foe was once again banned.

I don't think anyone captured the excitement and raw energy of the sport more than Tyson; even at his worst, he would still sell out arenas and book record PPV numbers, and everyone watching or in attendance knew it could all be over in under a minute.

I once had a pint with a guy called Joe Egan in a bar when attending a boxing event.

No idea who he was until he mentioned he used to be a pro boxer before he had a bad injury and was a sparring partner for Mike Tyson. My eyes lit up and thought he was taking the urine until he showed his gallery on his phone.

Remember him talking about the smell of fear in the minibus full of sparring partners on the way to Tyson's gym and how he felt out of place being a young man on the bus full of big strong athletic well built grown men.

He was last in the ring with Mike having watched all these men being absolutely flattened within 3 minutes. Joe stated he went the distance in sparring that day when some of these tougher bigger men felt the power and did not want any more of it.

Joe became a regular sparring partner for Tyson due to his durability and they remained friends.

Felt honoured just to have met someone part of the Tyson Story.

    Great post.

In his book, Egan said, “You’re sitting there… and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Jesus Christ.’ You’re looking at this guy who is getting pounded, and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘This is all ahead of me.’”

He's also another one to add to the ever-growing list of people John Fury bottled it from. At this point, I reckon Fury’s waiting for the guy Curtis Woodhouse doorstepped to show up and troll him.
