John H Stracey v Dave Boy Green One of my favourites because of the press conference punch up that made the fight massive was Bonfire Night 1985 Mark Kaylor v Errol Christie at a packed out Wembley Arena.
digger stanley vs joe bowker 1910 and could i throw in Lloyd HONEYGHAN VS SYLVESTER MITTEE in 1985 it was a british, european and commonwealth tittle shot and both i think were around the world top ten 1934 in i think the second fight between len harvey and jack petersen there was over eighty five thousand peopole there so i guess that was pretty big 1942 freddie mills vs len harvey
Wednesday night.... Sportsnight.... For 1989 it was a shrug your shoulder match. In fact I think most thought it was going to be a bit one sided... But of course now a days it would be pretty big on SKY. Another fight that falls into that category was Mason/Lewis, two undefeated world rated British Heavyweights fighting each other on a Wednesday evening, with a bit, but no huge publicity??? I guess that shows you how spoilt we once were...
But you could not beat a bit of Oyebola on Seconds Out. Which reminds me: Alright, not a huge domestic match up: But remember when undefeated Welsh Light Heavyweight brain-box Nicky Piper, he of the 200 IQ, agreed to a last minute substitute opponent, a Journeyman Cruiserweight by the name of Carl Thompson?
i used to love the fight night program and i remember there was a sports show at about 2ish on itv midweek that sometimes showed boxing
Anyone remember ESPN SuperBouts on ITV? I used to look forward to that all week to see what fights they would show (the papers rarely listed the details and there was no Internet).
