well it was in a body building mag...i thought tyson threw shots and stopped them short of his face..but i might be wrong...read it like 15 years ago in a body building mag.
my definition of a bully is someone who is tough and hard and uses fear and intimadation...but also folds when he meets someone harder then himself.
Former Liston and Frazier corner man Milt Bailey came right out on camera at the conclusion of a panel review of Manila years after the fact to say that a major difference between the two was that "Liston was a bully, while Frazier was a bulldog." This from an insider with ample context to draw from.
Bully : " Habitually CRUEL to weaker or lesser opponents " [ Websters D ]. Well who does this most accurately describe ? U got it ! Ali, by a landslide.
James Toney seems to be a chronic ***** outside of the ring. And I know this'll be a surprise, but if Muhammad Ali didn't like you, no one was a worse bully...
That is weighty indeed. Liston was also inordinately cruel to his trainer Willie Reddish -abusive even. This was noted at his training camp at White Cliffs, Plymouth. Then again, he was also considered very kind at times to those who knew him. Liston got down to about 205 before the originally scheduled rematch against Ali and that may have been some cause for meanness. All of us are complicated creatures. This is why I for one don't like sticking people we've never met in a pigeon hole, though we all do it every day both here and out there.
