Most good fighters become cherry pickers when they win a world title, that's traditional. And mostly they had cherry picked opponents on the way up too. That's what managers are for. Some are worse for it than others though. But I guess the best/worst or 'biggest' cherry picker is the guy who makes it look like he's fighting tough opponents but really they aren't what they seem to be. That's a real art.
Oh please, you recently said Duran threw the fight vs Sugar Ray Leonard. It wasn't a fixed fight, Duran quit because he was getting hit hard and clowned. Prove me wrong on what I said in this thread, or show us proof the Duran vs Leonard re-match was fixed! YOU CAN'T I am known for producing news reads, sharing boxing video, and offering 3rd party opinions, none of which I write. Next.
Can you read? First, tell me which quality opponent ranked in the top ten by Ring Magazine, Box Rec, or Fight News did Wilder face in his first four title defences? How about NONE Billy. He's cherry picking and looked bad in some of these fights. Can you simply admit that? Secondly, if you can read I said. " By the looks of it, Wilder doesn't want to fight Povetkin, who is ranked in the top ten. We'll see if Wilder takes the fight. By the looks of it is based on an opinion, hardly a lie. Besides everyone knows he's Wilder's got a suspect jaw. There have been many threads on it here. Once he beats a top ranked guy, he'll get respect. That has not happened yet, despite 37 pro fights.
First of all you called yourself a historian yet you're acting like Wilder is a champion. He's NOT a world champion. So therefore your weak ass argument is null and void. He's a titlist. A ****en titlist. The sooner you get that into your head the better. You need help? Find out who the lineal champion is at heavyweight. Only then can you understand where I'm coming from.
You sound like this dude that I used to argue with when AOL had a boxing message board called Joann. FOH lol.. And that weasel ass "by the looks of it" quip, is quite hilarious. Wilder and Povetkin are ranked in the top 10 and Wilder didn't use the disappearing drug Meldonium to opt out of their fight.
I didn't say Leonard-Duran was fixed. I said it possibly was a fix. There's a massive difference there. Maybe you can't comprehend that. Most people were completely mystified by Duran's quitting at the time and never really got a satisfactory explanation. I don't care either way, i don't have the answer either. It might have been this, or that, X, Y or Z. I'll never know. Jack Johnson cherry picked. I'm not denying that. But you are known to cling to single quotes and even proven ERRORS that suit your agenda, even when they are outweighed by dozens of quotes and testimonies that contradict.
Most champions cherry-pick. In the old days, way way back, maybe before the 1930s or 1920s, they were probably even worse for it. The life of a prizefighter was real hard and getting the title meant they could make some money, taking on easy marks, and sometimes just public appearances.
