Bailey, I agree with you and I don't know why there has to be a Euro/Us war. I'm American and I respect Kessler(may become a fan), like Ottke from what I've seen from him(may become a fan if someone posts more of him on youtube) and am a Pirog fan(love his style, watched more of him today and became a fan). I also don't know why people hate Ottke for staying in his hometown though Americans such as Mayweather & Jones(my boys but still) get a pass for fighting in the States so much(Mayweather all of his career). I do have more respect for Hopkins for facing Pascal in Canada and is going to go back there in the rematch. Thanks, I will look at this.
Your not far wrong. Ottke did have some skills but a lack of a punch often made some of the fights a bit dull. The great thing really though was that Ottke new he wasnt a big puncher but still found ways to win with what he had and could do
I watched all of Ottkes fights BITD. Always hoping he'd be KTFO. Of course that never happened. I always hoped him and Calzaghe would have squared off as I am sure Joe would have ended Ottke's reign.
Dammit! Everyone says he's boring but I want to see what makes him so "boring". Hopefully many of his fights get on youtube. I'm a purist, I love the sweet science just as long as there's fighters willing to win. I'm a Jimmy Young fan for crying out loud lol. Ottke was a good technician and I LOVE technicians so I'm sure I'll like him more.
Oh I see. Respect! I cant stand him. Pernell Whitaker also bored the **** out of me. Ottke was a defensive genious. Impossible to hit clean. Nicknamed 'The Phantom' for a reason. He had zero power but incredible he KO'ed Anthony Mundine with the weakest looking left hook I can remember. Mundine was hit right on the soft spot on the temple and was carried out on a stretcher.
See Whitaker/McGirt 2, Whitaker/Rivera 1(possibly a gift), Whitaker/Chavez, and Whitaker/R. Mayweather. A couple of pretty good fights imo with nice action. I did see the Ottke/Mundine ko and yes it did look like a weak shot. Ottke as you've mentioned was never known for power but was a smart boxer.
