I'll be very interested to see how Pacquiao deals with Hatton's perpetual forward motion. You have to have exceptional sharp shooting skills and defensive ability to live with that. Pacquiao is an excellent fighter, but he most certainly doesn't like to be the guy getting advanced on. Even for a moment.

knowing rickys gonna eat countless straight lefts, it all boils down to how much heart & will he has at this stage in his career.

I think Pacman wins. Quoting Larry Merchant while Pacman pummeling Dela Hoya, "Death by a thousand left hands". Seriously, Pac will be too fast for Ricky, & that southpaw stance of Pac which I believe Ricky will be having difficulty to deal with.:good

You mean Hatton will utilise his jab and reach advantage, mixing in controlled aggression to counter Pac's attacking style? Yeah nah. Hatton doesn't have the skills to pull off a Morales type performance. Hatton will only win from strength and pressure, but he will be stopped.

Cotto is not a lefty & slow. He also quit in that fight against Margarito.

To be honest, there's no way I can legitimately call myself 'the Biggest Pacquiao fan' on this forum when there are guys like Puga_ni_Nana and other Filippinos (the dude with the Eeyore avatar?) who know far more about Pac's career than me, but I'll post on this thread anyway since you asked.

This is what I posted today on my own thread regarding Pac-Hatton. This is my take on it:

I can't even express how excited I am that this fight is happening.

    - Two of the world's top 10 fighters clashing for The Ring title.

    - The undisputed best light-welterweight in the world taking on the undisputed world pound-for-pound number 1.

    - Pacquiao is going for a world title at a SIXTH weight division, Hatton is protecting his unbeaten record at 140lbs and bidding to become one of the best fighters to ever fight at that weight.

    - Two brave, honourable men putting it all on the line.

    - Two of the world's most highly rated trainers in either corner.

Think for a moment - just how many punches are going to be thrown in this fight?? How many backward steps are going to be taken?? The potential for knockdowns and/or a stoppage is high - thrilling excitement is guaranteed from two of the best warriors in the game.

Boxing does not need PBF to have a real superfight in '09.

If I was pushed, I think Pacquiao will win, but I say that without much confidence. I felt more confident picking Manny immediately after his win over Oscar, but in the cold light of day I view this fight very much as a 50-50.

Ricky would be a murderous opponent for anyone at 140lbs, any natural light-welter never mind a former flyweight world champ.

He showed improved use of the jab and improved defence against Malignaggi - two aspects of his game which will be crucial against Pac. And of course these honed aspects were complimented by Ricky's formidable natural strength and workrate.

I view this as a very, very dangerous assignment for Pacquiao. Don't get me wrong, Pac has improved immeasurably since his first fight with Morales, but alarm bells keep sounding in my head - if Erik could outbox and outjab him before Pac worked him out by the 2nd fight and asserted his superiority, couldn't someone far naturally bigger and stronger like Hatton do the same??

And yet, I really think Pacquiao has become a very special fighter now. When push comes to shove, I will back him to take another difficult step towards immortality in this one.

Although it may seem a rather reductive way of looking at a 50-50 fight between two top top fighters, I keep coming back to one phrase: Speed kills.

Ricky's head movement and defence looked better against Malignaggi - but can Ricky's head movement and defence really ever be good enough to elude the rapier-like, varied, thrusting attacks from Manny Pacquiao? Pacquiao is surely far fleeter of hand and foot than anyone else in the junior-welterweight division - and anyone Ricky has ever fought IMO.

I have my doubts whether even Floyd Sr can refurbish Ricky's defensive game to a state where he can effectively defend against Pacman for 12 hard rounds.

And I trust Pac's chin and his stamina a little more than I trust Ricky's.

I expect this fight to be an absolute war. Both men will have their moments in a very even fight, both will be hurt at points and both will still fancy their chances two-thirds of the way in

However, I expect Manny's speed and remorseless attacks to begin to tell by around the 10th. He will wear Ricky down, and the referee will intervene in the 11th or 12th.

But it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it went down the other way, with Ricky's bodyshots and pressure grinding the smaller man to a halt.

Either way, the victor will deserve all the credit in the world, as this is a great great fight!!

I'm a fan of both and this is a great match up.

The First Question for me is the Referee.

If he Break's them quickly then the advantage must swing towards Pacquiao,
Hatton is gonna struggle against his speed and Pacman can be in and out delivering scoring punches all night with the possibility of a UD.

However a more lenient ref who let's Hatton get to work on the inside will be huge for Hatton who could wear Pacquiao down and maybe stop him late in the fight.

The Second Question for me is Hattons Defense.

Mayweather Sr has his work cut out because Hatton takes too many shots and against a world class operator like Pacquiao he's gonna be eating them all night as pacquiao is going to be throwing plenty, unlike Malignaggi.

The last time Hatton was in with someone this good it was Mayweather, and while it was looking alright for a few rounds, Hatton lost his focus and left himself far too open for Floyd and we all know what happened.

Hattons Head movement better improve and no rushing in head down all gung ho because he'll smother anything he's attempting to do.

As for Pacquiao, He's in his prime, P4P NO1 in the world and has looked fantastic in his last two fight's, however he's never faced a live Light welter and he's going in with the strongest in the division.
I'm sure Freddie Roach has done his homework and is working on all Hattons weakness's, Pacman has to fight his fight and not get fazed with the Physically stronger Hatton.

Both Trainers will have a huge infuence in this fight as will the Referee and i am really intrigued to see how it play's out.

In the early rounds against DLH, it was DLH who was going forward and Pacquiao was in the defensive. Pacquiao did show that he can fight with his opponent going forward instead of him. I knew the dynamics of the fight changed when suddely it was DLH who was fighting backwards and from there it was downhill for DLH.

    Ok.

Of course what De La Hoya was doing in terms of forward movement and what we'll get from Hatton are in different stratospheres. Of course.

you can only over power somebody if you can hit your opponent at will...

will his power punches hit pac at planned?!

i don't see pac having problems hitting Hatton.

I see a repeat of pac vs diaz... hatton will accept pac punches in order to possilbly give pac a power punch..

accumulation of punches will wear down hatton IMO..

Anyone up for an avatar bet?

    I'm betting for Pac.

Anyone who's confident Hatton can win can bet with me. Doesn't bother if your 3 to 1 against me.
