Alex Garcia's manager turned down an offer to fight George Foreman for
'big bucks', upwards close to $500,000.
The manager said, he 'wasn't quite ready, and needed 2 or 3 more fights'.

Well what does he do, go out and get knocked out by trial-horse Mike Dixon on an ESPN fight,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,fight purse $8000

I thought a lot of Willie Dewitt after his 2-punch KO over Henry Tillman in the amateurs but he took bad guidance and was mismanaged and undeveloped ...shame

Nick Wells had extreme power, he KO'd Larry Holmes-2-times at Holmes amateur peak but Nick had horrible pro training and a pro style was not added to his sick power...poorly managed

Duane Bobick never really showed he had it as a pro, a padded record like (Foreman), I think he was ruined by Stevenson who he beat in their 1st fight in the amateurs.....Norton and Knoetzee stopped him then Tate all early

Henry Tillman...Tyrell Biggs, Mike Williams, Jorge Gonzalez,

Duane Bobick was the highest graded Heavyweight Amateur ever in
1971, following his victory in the 1971 Pan-Am games.

All (3) TV Networks were discussing big contracts with him and his family,
    just before the 1972 Olympics.

One was a 30-month/30-fight deal (Fight once a month on National TV).
Signing bonus, expenses, public relation jobs for family members, plus
    fight purses, etc.
    Deal worth over $1,000,000.

Another name from about 30 years ago was the guy Stallone bought--Lee Canalito. There were some folks that thought the guy had a lot of tools for a heavyweight and could go somewhere.

Charles Shufford played 'Foreman' in the Michael Mann film: "ALI." Too bad Shufford couldn't really fight for ****...

I can remember some people picking Shufford to get the win over Wlad when they fought. Then again, lots of folks seem to follow the Teddy Atlas picks when it comes to Wladimir Klitschko fights. The argument that he does 1 thing poorly. The trouble is, the guy in the other corner has fatal flaws himself but that part of things does not seem to get evaluated.

"Alex Zolkin, Wimpy Halstead, Elijah Tillery, Mike "Bounty" Hunter, Kimmel Odum, Ricky Womack & Everett Martin."

Granted, some of these names aren't really flops, but more so bums and sorry mothers, etc...

Duane primed as an amateur but an unfortunate loss to the 3 rd killer Teofilio Stevenson who also destroyed John Tate and others took from his luster...He had wars with Nick Wells but as a pro they did nothing to correct his upright stance...Bobick never impressed me as a pro

Bobick bounced Holmes on the floor but Wells flat KO'd Holmes 2 times...but what makes a flop a great prospect that does not advance to his expected talent potential for whatever reason

I loved me some Wimpy back in the day, but I don't think anyone had delusions of him being anything more than he was, one of the great record padders of his day... though he did KO Mike Tyson.

    Bummy,

Correct, Duane never developed out that amateur mentallity.
The guy was so far advanced as an amateur, except for the Stevenson KO loss.
He was labeled as 'can't miss.

If he avoided Ken Norton, and just shot for a Title fight with Ali, I beleive he would have went the distance in 1977.
Not win of course, but go 15 rounds, as Ali's power was done.

Bleeding on the brain versus Jirov. Claimed he was healed and fought a few more times looking less than impressive. His shortfallings were beginning to show before the Jirov fight, though. He did retire undefeated for what it's worth.

pat comisky was being built up as heavyweight threat, but max baer, of all prople, came out of retirement and knocked him out in the first round. i've got this on tape and maxie obviously had a party or a gal to get to and he just roared out bombarded him.

jackie cranford was considered a prospect but he never made it either.

henry "snow" flakes was supposed to be a comer, but he got the electric chair instead.

Mesi got hurt somewhere along the line and I think it was before Jirov and I think he also slowed down in the 2nd part of a fight. He was impressive vs TOS, clean 1st rd KO, his win over Barrett was a decent one because Barrett was still a force...Jirov caught him with some massive shots behind the head and could have ruined him but Mesi had potential and I think he would beat a Bobick, would more than likely lose to Cooney but not a lock and should beat Bugner but not a lock...I think it was a tragedy for him that he got injured but a blessing he did not have to face a Klitschko
