Bobick's management could have bypassed Norton perhaps, but the inherent weakness of Bobick's ...that tendency to freeze when tagged by a puncher...would have been his undoing..it would have been only a matter of time before he was to face a Gerrie Coetzee, of Knoetze..even vs Ali it would have been possible that he could have benn tagged with a right hand like the one Ron Lyle took..

The aforementioned Coetzee..although he attained one of the alphabet titles, he had the capacity to be better than what he showed..

    Adamek.

His Heavyweight competition had been atrocious.
The only slightly decent opponents he faced were Obese Arreola & Old Grant.

Arreola was 20lbs overweight but gave him a razor-close war, Grant was 38 years old & overly bulked-up, but managed to badly rock him & make it competitive. Low-level journeyman Estrada gave him a tough fight, & a grossly obese, almost 38 year old terribly-unskilled McBride lasted the distance while Adamek was trying to stop him...

Vitali-Adamek is a mismatch, & Adamek knew he couldn't take any risks on the way to his big payday, yet he still struggled badly & almost lost to a Obese Arreola.

Tony Tubbs and Carl"The Truth"Williams come to mind.Tubbs didn't train, and had no power, and Williams didn't have the chin, and just had respectable power.

I think Foster actually got a fight with Ali later on and lost a decision.

My god there are numerous. Winning a title has very little to do with failed potential in certain cases.

Big one for me is Mike Tyson. Mental problems stopped him from being a bit more, tho i personally believe Holyfield would have beat him.

Greg Page - Loads of talent but little guidance, motivation and dedication.

Michael Dokes - The high life killed him of his potentially peak years.

Gerry Cooney - Was never guided properly pre Holmes and went AWOL post Holmes when he should have been learning and finding his peak.

Buster Douglas - Very similar to Page. Buster could have been extremely good i reckon. Fast hands, excellent power, great jab - the guy had so many assets.

    This. :deal

Spencer received an almost absurd amount of both critical praise and fan popularity, based on just a single upset win over Ernie Terrell. He was proclaimed "Ali's successor" by many and instantly became the hot favorite to win the WBA HW tourney. Almost comically, he never won another fight.

Incidentally, as Spencer was on the way down, he lost to Mac Foster and Jose Luis Garcia - two other fighters who qualify as colossal HW flops.

Actually Golota was heavyweight champ - twice - as he legitimately beat both Ruiz and Byrd with no ****** business + the usual crooked house ref in there against him too, but he was robbed both times.

What, lacked durability? He was never beaten, but he was seriously injured in his fight with Jirov, and that is what ended his career.

Gerry Cooney - he could have and should have been the champ. Horribly mismanaged.

Find me a top 15 heavyweight not named Klitschko that's fought significantly better competition in the division recently than Arreola and Grant. Can you make an argument for anyone other than Chambers and Povetkin? The fact of the matter is none of these guys fight one another. Even David Haye who had a belt, remove Wlad and the best heavyweight he fought was a shot John Ruiz. The only matches up there between current top 15 guys not featuring a Klitschko in the past few years are:

    Chambers-Dimitrenko
    Chambers-Povetkin
Povetkin-Chagaev (the bullsh*t WBA regular title)
    Adamek-Arreola

    Gotta agree on Audley.
