Peterson's story doesn't add up. Peterson claims he was diagnosed with low testosterone levels, administered the testosterone implant and then forgot about it right up until now. Now as unlikely as it is, let's take Peterson's story at face value. Not sure what testosterone implants you use in America, but in the UK Oragon is used, which maintains a high plasma (blood) concentration of testosterone for at least 6 months. But for anti-doping tests urine was used so it would show up in tests for longer - because you test for the broken down metabolites of testosterone which are still found in urine when the testosterone has been cleared from the blood. Peterson's "A" sample was tested on April 12, it was positive and Peterson was informed in April 13. At this point Peterson didn't disclose that he had the testosterone implant because he was had forgotten he had it. It was only when the "B" sample was tested on May 3 that he remembered and disclosed it to the board. Now this is where it gets ridiculous. In addition to the urine samples taken from Peterson on the March 19 that tested positive, Peterson gave a second sample on the April 13 that was tested on May 2 as negative. So basically on April 13, we know there was no testosterone, and he had been clean for some time - as the metabolites had to clear from his urine in addition to his blood. In other words, the implant was removed some time before April 13 - as otherwise he wouldn't have tested clean. But occurring to Peterson, he had forgotten he had been given the implant, and only remembered it had been given to him on or after May 3, the when the results of his "B" sample came back positive. In summary, his account is contradictory and impossible. If he had forgotten about the implant, he would not have given a negative urine sample on April 13, the implant would still be under his skin. But after he gave the positive sample he had the implant removed, and didn't notify VADA about it.
This is what I think happened: 2011 - Before 1st Khan fight. Peterson gets a doctor to "diagnose" him with hypogonadism, get a testosterone implant. He doesn't disclose it to any boxing board because he has no real medical grounds to have one, and they wouldn't sanction the fight. 2012 March 19 Peterson is asked to provide 2 urine samples A and B. He realises at this point that he's in trouble and gets the implant removed. April 13 - Peterson is informed by VADA that his A sample has tested positive. He's also made to provide a second sample (not the B sample). At this point he no longer has testosterone metabolites in his urine - so the implant is no longer there - he's managed to clear it in 22 days. May 3 - The "B" sample taken on March 19th is confirmed as positive. At this point Peterson "remembers" the testosterone implants he had, and informs the board. So why wouldn't Peterson come clean with VADA after the sample "A" came back positive? It's obvious, he wanted to wait on the results of the "B" sample. If it came back negative, he'd be given the all clear and none of us would be the wiser. The implant was gone so he could probably give as many clean samples as he liked.
He still has the implants. He should have told VADA/NSAC that he had pellets/implants just b4 the 1st fight with Khan.
He doesn't - why else would the 13th April sample he gave come back as negative? He had them removed - science doesn't lie. If he has them now, he's had them re-implanted at some point after April 13th.
The biggest hole is that he isn't a candidate for testosterone replacement theraphy. I grew up with doctors and such rx's are handed out to patients with chronic conditions such as hiv or middle-aged men trying to get their libido back. In fact, there's a new drug testosterone drug out here (aptly called "Bravado") in which the ads shows middle aged men with their significant others and the voice-over going on about "...whether if you don't feel like yourself lately (ie, you don't feel like your younger manly 20 year old self)...go see your doctor about bravado."
Agreed, he needs to be banned, 1st fight declared NC (those saying Mosley got away with after admitting- well a precedent has to be set then here) and Khan gets his belts back + an easy kushy opponent for May 19th and he gets petersons purse + a gauranteed shot at Paulie in the fall for WBA 147 belt - if I was Khan , these would be my demands
This is his biggest mistake. No one will believe he "forgot". I personally think he knew he could get away with micro-dosing and many athletes know this because they do a ratio test first and only do the 'real' test if the ratio is out of whack. Problem is that VADA starts with the 'real' test to catch micro-dosers. GAME OVER
Home town venue, home town ref, home town judging decisions and extra testosterone? You got a problem with that?
I doubt the local commission will strip him even though he falsified his pre-fight drug declaration but I look for the orgs to strip him of his belts over this. In essence he will never be able to say he was champion.
