Biggest problem concerning Wlad is that he lacks the will to win, the fire

Lots of great champions in the past (Almost all of them) had that fire. The backbone of a boxer that can lift them when the going gets tough. You believe in your training and you depend on that and your heart/determination/will to get you through dire situations

But when you watch Wladimir, you don't get that. You see some guy very scared of being hit, throws nothing, tries to set up that perfect shot . If it doesn't work, he'll continue trying those very very safe tactics until it does and that's what costed him all of his belts. Fury was so awkward in there and nothing Wlad did that night was working.

He was just waiting and waiting and waiting and losing round after round after round. As soon as he looked up, he was down 6-1 on the scorecards at least. The lack of urgency also plagued him.

I can't think of any champion in the past who will watch his belts leave like that without putting up a fight. :think

He's a great boxer, we all know that!! But the lack of a determination, fire, will to win is simply the reason as to why I never thought he could beat Fury!!!

I knew Fury was going to give him massive troubles with the size/strength/length. Never for one moment did I believe Wlad was going to win that fight!!! :deal

The primary basis for this: the rabid fear of being hit.

He's not a natural fighter. He simply does not know how to fight. Vitali, as much as I'm critical of him, was a true spartan in the ring.

I don't think I've ever seen any fighter more afraid of getting hit in my life. I mean, come on Wlad, you are a heavyweight champion, its part of the deal that you might get hit once in a while. When the other guy is throwing punches he gets this look of fear on his face that is just sad. For all his tough talk and staredowns of Fury, he fought like a total pansy, for gods sake, he makes Floyd look like Jake LaMotta. He really tarnashed whatever his legacy was in this fight and its doubtful that he can repair it in a rematch.

    I agree pretty much.

That said I would still consider him very tough overall, just not when it comes to other great boxers. He has got skills and size but he reacts poorly to getting hit or out boxed. He has a tendency to "panic" with his emotions in the ring, I recognize it because I used to have the same problem in the ring. I was great against guys I could handle but when I got in against better guys I would fall to pieces. Often at times I didn't need to just because I panicked too much after getting tagged which is part of the sport.

I really think that the reason why he didnt have the will to win is because he just doesn't react as well to getting tagged and doesn't trust himself to be "OK" if and when he does get tagged. I think he was scared if he pushed Fury harder earlier two things would happen,

1, as he hadn't figured Fury out he was worried he would get hit even more than he was getting hit and thus he worried getting knocked out.

2, he worried that if he went all out he may loose control of his PACE (as he did against Purrity and Brewster) and suddenly find himself in a fight with ZERO left and that feeling whereby he can barely breathe only to have Fury win the fight with whatever he had left.

Thus I think these considerations turned Vlad into a cautious man who lacked the will to keep his title.

No offence, I wouldn't want Fury to keep punching me in the head either :rasta

I agree with the thread title.

Maybe this will be the spark that finally lights a fire in him, could be his Rocky/Clubber Lang moment. If he has any pride he won't want to go out on another repeat performance.

he would have to be mentally prepared to go out and take a chance he would get tagged more often than he has ever been tagged before. He would have to be prepared to be knocked out and willing to handle it before it happened imo. Only then would he have a better chance of winning a rematch.

Definitely. He needs to overcome the fact that he can be knocked out but realise that it isn't going to happen Everytime someone hits him. He needs to look at the peter fight and realise that he isn't going to crumble if he takes a flush shot, then go out there and throw bombs. That's wishful thinking of course.

true but he also wasn't 39 at that time.

plus he bounced back with a very cautious style and to bounce back NOW I think he would need to employ the opposite style so it wont be easy.

Didn't duck or dodge or retire ..He went on this winning streak after avenging one of his worst losses ..Says a ton about the man's heart !
