Foreman isn't the one lying. Foreman never said Shavers was the hardest puncher. Here is a clip of Foreman being asked that exact question. He lists Gerry Cooney, Ron Lyle and Cleveland Williams as the hardest punchers he knows. When asked about Shavers he said he never fought him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmG_gR576EA
I believe in other interviews George stated Cooney hit him the hardest. I've never heard him mention Shavers.
And because BillB never heard George say Shavers hit the hardest it never happened. I know he never fought Earnie and never said he did. But, I did hear him and Ali(who fought both Shavers and Foreman) say the same thing. I think he said Earnie was the hardest puncher out of respect for Ali. And just because he never fought Shavers and we didn't either does not mean we can't voice an opinion on who hit harder. What is a forum if not a load of opinions ?
I watched all these fighter up close....Foreman hit the hardest....or at least his punches were more powerful. The guy was a human wrecking ball in his prime.
No doubt George and his telephone pole jab hit hard, and maybe the hardest. I'm just saying Ali said Earnie hit hardest and I heard George say the same. Who am I to disagree with them?
from viewing boxers comments from the past they say it was shavers, although i think foreman was a better finisher,. i think if we are looking at the modern era, probably tyson, wlad, lewis,
Find and post a source for Foreman saying Shavers hit the hardest. I don't believe he ever said it. If I'm proven wrong, I'll admit it.
I believe you can find George saying just about anything concerning any given subject. He has said several times Cooney hit him the hardest although the punches he took from Lyle knocked him down twice. The last KD by Lyle was one hell of a shot....dropped George as if he had been shot. if I had to take a guess that one punch was the hardest Foreman was ever hit.
:good Thats right hitting hard is the easy part, landing against a fighter with world class reactions is another kettle of fish. So many good fighters can flatten journeymen but just cant seem to land right against the best fighters. Joe Louis and Marciano knocked them cold -good and great alike.
One of Frank Bruno's sparring partners who also sparred with Cleavland Williams and George Foreman, said that their power was comparable.
